The leadership capabilities of a manager in the hospitality industry is without doubt very crucial to the success of any establishment. A hospitality leader must lead from the front and set an example for all employees. Hence the behaviour and qualities of such a person in charge must be of the highest order. In this article, we will look at some of the must have qualities of a successful hospitality leader-

Interpersonal skills

As the saying goes, “Customer is King”, a good hospitality leader must engage with all his guests politely. He must display a positive and cheerful attitude. This can only be possible with exemplary communication skills both verbal as well as non-verbal portrayed through body language and other means.

Being empathetic

Listening to the problems faced by guests and empathizing with them is an art. A good hospitality leader will always take care of their guests and make sure they do not face any issues whatsoever. You must carefully listen to their problems and offer an amicable solution which makes them feel important.

Display ...
... resilience

To be a successful hospitality leader, you must be ready to face whatever challenges that may come your way. You must learn to adapt in the face of adversity and set an example for your subordinates. Handling such situations tactfully, keeping your cool and displaying professionalism will ensure you emerge victorious in the end.

Flexibility

In such a fast-paced industry as hospitality, a good leader must be the jack of all trades. He can be needed anytime, anywhere. He must be prepared for whatever may come his way. Being a hospitality leader is a very demanding role owing to the dynamic work environment therefore each new day is different from the previous.

Teamwork

A leader is nothing without his team. Good leadership is not about bossing around your team but recognising individual contributions, rewarding good performance and mutual respect for one another. To succeed in such a competitive industry, you have to be a team player otherwise there is no place for you here.

Attention to detail

A close attention to small things is what separates your establishment from all others. It is this factor which will ensure customer loyalty, retention and great word of mouth publicity. Any five star hotel can provide you with well-furnished rooms and cosy beds but personalised service is what will make your guests choose you over the competition.

So, these were some of the skills required to be a successful hospitality leader. Of course there is no end to learning and it goes on forever such as technological advancements, maintaining integrity and a burning desire to improve your performance constantly.
