Let's face it, having an ADHD child can be challenging but that does not mean that we should love them less. As a parent, it is our main responsibility and duty to help our child be the best and achieve their maximum potential with or without ADHD. With all the negative characteristics that come with the condition, it is important for us to help our ADHD child in any way possible and that help should start from home.

There are many things that you could do to help your child in managing their ADD condition. Changing our home life and setting up rules can help them not only through their childhood but with good foundation it can help them all throughout their life. One valuable way for us to help our ADHD child is to make a schedule of activities. Setting specific times for almost all activities such as waking up, homework, chores, watching TV, playing video game and etc is helpful because there will be no element of surprise. You should make it a point to explain any variation in the normal schedule if any and post the schedule in a visible place.

... well understood also helps an ADHD child. When you make simple house rules, you should let your child realize the reason behind it as well as the consequences once broken. In a way, this is also a great way to instill discipline. If you are giving directions to your child, make sure that you maintain eye contact and make them understand in a clear and calm voice what you want. You might want to keep instructions short and simple and let the child repeat the instructions back to you to see if they really understood.

Congratulating and rewarding an ADD child because of good behavior and also for completion of task makes the child feel special and would want to do the deed again. It is also very important for you to make sure that your child has adult supervision all the time. Since children with ADHD are highly impulsive, they may do some things that may cause harm without even realizing it.

Children with ADHD usually have challenges when it comes to socialization. For you to be able to help them improve their social skills, you have to watch and learn how they interact with friends and other people and reward them for good behavior. It does not have to be a material reward, giving praise and recognition often times work better than material rewards. Lastly, most ADHD child results to having learning disability and we have to make sure that we focus on the effort and not grades. It's hard enough that they are different from the normal kids and you giving them pressure to get high grades can be damaging. You could however give rewards for getting better grades for motivation as well as it is important for you to set homework routine. Work hand in hand with their teacher and get to know their progress. ADHD is a condition that can be beaten with a help of a loving parent.
