We surely all love sauces. There are so many different types depending on the country and even the area in a country. Sauces can be spicy or not, they can be for meat, fish or vegetables. Basically, for every dish, there is certainly a sauce that will be great.
Italy and especially Italian food is a good example of the diversity of sauces and what can go in.

I guess most people know at least one or two different Italian sauces.
The very famous Bolognese sauce is probably the first sauce you had in mind. The Bolognese sauce is a pasta sauce mainly made from meat and tomato. But these are not the only two ingredients of this famous sauce. A proper Bolognese sauce would actually contain pancetta, onions, carrots, celery, meat and pasta paste of course, but also meat broth, milk and white wine. It is fascinating to see that spaghetti alla Bolognese actually never existed in Italy where the sauce is actually served with tagliatelle or lasagna but not spaghetti.
The Napolitana sauce is another loved classic Italian pasta sauce that plenty of us know of. This sauce actually uses some of the ingredients used ...
... in a Bolognese sauce, and includes onions, carrots and celery, but also parsley, olive oil and some sugar on top of tomatoes.
Pesto is another great sauce absolutely delicious on pasta.
This sauce actually comes from northern Italy and more precisely around Genoa. This sauce is usually made from basil leaves, garlic and pine nuts crushed to make some sort of creamy sauce. Many versions of this delicious sauce have been developed with various vegetables like the aubergine, also called eggplant. It has a very close cousin in France which is also made with basil and garlic but without pine nuts.

The sauces listed are just a few that we often love to eat with pasta. But there are so many sauces made for meats and other food types that it would take too long to go through all of them or even just mention them as every part of the world will have its local sauces made for their local cuisine.

Many Italian food shops providing Italian delicatessen have sauces. Some have even developed Italian food online shops to make buying authentic Italian sauce easier for all of us. What a great world we live in. We can buy Italian food online like Panettone or pasta sauce in a few clicks.
