Barcelona - A Great Travel Destination

In the almost 9 years that I have been living in Barcelona I have come across many people who have almost all said the exact same thing to me - "oh I just love Barcelona", or "in all my travels throughout Europe Barcelona was my favorite".
Having heard this so many times I started to wonder to myself why Barcelona has appealed to so many people from different countries, ages and walks of life. What is it about Barcelona that makes people talk about it in that "in love" manner? And as I paid closer attention to the city that has been my home for quite some time I began to better understand why Barcelona is such a great travel destination for just about everyone. Barcelona accommodation is plentiful - apartments to rent, rooms to rent and B&B guesthouses abound.
Having said this, as I began to put together my list of why Barcelona is a great travel destination I realized that there are many different points that are worth mentioning. For this reason I have decided to divide this topic into parts to be covered over the next month, and here is part 1.
To begin with, it simply doesn't matter what month or ...
... day or time it is, there are always many interesting things to see, do and enjoy in Barcelona. I believe this to be true with all my heart and I have known this all along as so many times in the past when I have had the pleasure of checking in guests into one of my accommodations on a rainy day and I would be asked how the weather is supposed to be. My response was always "don't worry, there are so many things to see and do and you will have a great time regardless of the weather and at least now you know how Barcelona is when it rains".
So whether there be sun and a temperature of 90 degrees or it be cold and rainy travellers will always find plenty of fun and interesting options to ensure the visit is worthwhile. For a list of the many things to see and do take a look at our Destination Stuff section of Papu Travel.
Moving along, another factor which I believe contributes to the great travel destination that Barcelona is has to do with the size of this city. It's not too big, nor too small and it's quite compact. For a traveller, this is perfect as the convenient size of Barcelona allows for the easy exploration of the entire city. No matter where you may be, whether in the Gothic, on Las Ramblas, in the Born neighborhood, the Barceloneta Beach neighborhood, El Raval, Gracia, Eixample or Sarria you will almost always be no more than a 15-20 minute metro ride, bike or walk away.
And no matter where are, you will feel like you are right in the middle of all the action and excitement, enjoying the feeling of living and experiencing Barcelona.
