3 Tips For Using Fungicides On Your Crops
When a plant is attacked by fungi, it gradually gets damaged. Further, fungi infections are contagious. Once a plant gets infected by fungi, the infection spreads rapidly to the nearby plants. As a result, many farmers buy azoxystrobin and other fungicides to prevent and treat the infection. Using a fungicide, however, can be harmful to your crops if not used with caution. If you need help for using a fungicide or have never used one before, here are 3 tips for using it on your crops:
1. Apply Before the Infection Develops
As they say, “prevention is better than the cure,” it is applicable not only for your health but also in the context of your crops. Fungicides prevent as well as treat fungi infection. If you don’t apply a fungicide on your crops in time, you will notice a lesion on one of the leaves one day, which will seem harmless. The next thing you would know is that the infection has rapidly spread to other plants, and you will notice lesions on a lot more leaves. Thus, it’s best, in this case, to apply a ...
... fungicide before any infection develops.
2. Increase Application Frequency During Rains
Monsoon is the time when your crops are at the highest risk of being infected and not just by fungi. Although some fungi infections affect the plants in summer, the risk is the highest during the monsoon. Agriculture experts recommend that you should increase the frequency of fungicide application during monsoon. A fungi infection develops when the leaves are wet. Increasing the fungicide application during rains ensures that fungi do not attack your crops, even during the monsoon. The general gap between a fungicide application is 7 to 14 days. During the monsoon, the frequency should be 5 to 8 days.
3. Alternate Fungicides Every Season
Fungicides have two categories: systemic and contact. The former is absorbed by the plants, whereas the latter stays on the surface. Systemic fungicides are used for prevention and contact fungicides for the treatment. Agriculture experts recommend that when you are using a systemic fungicide, you should change it every season. Alternating fungicides prevent the development of resistance against a particular type of fungicide. If you continue using the same fungicide every season, you will have to slowly increase its dosage to have any effect on your crops, and this will harm them.
These days, you don’t have to buy contact and systemic fungicides separately. They are now available in combination. For instance, you can buy azoxystrobin (systemic fungicide) with tebuconazole (contact fungicide). Remember to keep the aforementioned tips for using a fungicide if you don’t want to cause further harm to your crops to prevent and treat a fungi infection.
