‘removal’ In Skincare: The First Resort Or The Last?
When it comes to choosing a skincare product, there is absolutely no doubt about the fact that there are countless choices available to us on any random day we decide to get a new aloe vera face cream or a face and body scrub. But in case someone hasn't been paying attention, or just does a simple online search to try and find what they are looking for, it can be really overwhelming. With countless website portals, reddit posts, expert advice and video ads, how does one make a choice? Not only that, how does one make sure that the choice they are making is actually the best one for them? Well, the answer is quite simple. When it comes to choosing a skincare product, there is only one question you need to ask yourself, “addition, or subtraction?”
Sounds weird? But it really isn’t. If you think about it, when you buy and use any skincare product in the world, you are doing one of two things. Either you are adding something, like using a moisturiser to ‘add’ moisture to your skin and make it healthy and hydrated. Or, you are subtracting ...
... something, like using the best blemish removal cream that was recommended to you. It’s that simple. Whatever the product may be. From scrubs to facewash and tanners to tan removers, skincare-related products are all about addition and subtraction.
However, let’s focus on the subtraction part of things for now. Is it really necessary? Can’t we just fight off blemishes, acne and tan by adding good substances to our skin instead of removing stuff? Wouldn’t that also make it easier for us to decide what we want? Just think about the kind of skincare issue you want to solve, the kind of things you prefer on your skin, and voila! As simple as that!
But here’s the thing. Stuff like acne, blemishes and tan need to be removed because while yes, all of these things do leave our skin naturally over varying periods of time, but they do so after having impacted our skin in the long term. Things like these completely change the way our skin behaves. What it becomes sensitive to, what kind of substances it would allow you to add, and how it reacts to your favourite skincare products in the future. So, to make sure that our skin always stays healthy, no matter what, ‘removal’ is an absolutely essential part of skincare.
