Careerism And Careerists As Negative Social Phenomena

Sheltering in Making Career
Very often people try to compensate one side of their life at the expense of another. Being disillusioned in personal life they may shelter in making career. Another case is when education and unstandardized working hours take too much time and limit the person's interests. It is difficult for careerists to find their partner in life as the communication is limited to the professional topics. If they do not find their half in the professional environment they are almost doomed to loneliness.
Careerism presupposes sacrificing not only personal life but moral values and ethics as well. Being aimed at climbing career ladder they try to reach their goals by all means. They are ready to walk over dead bodies for achieving the desirable results. It means that careerists do not have moral principles and consequently they do not have true friends. On the other hand, lack of moral support may eventually result in nervous breakdowns, decrease of working capacity and underachievement.
Setting the priorities and combining work with personal life
Every workaholic is in danger of transformation ...
... into careerist. A person is to find golden mean in everything in order to become happy. Surely, there is no limit to perfection, and there are always plenty of things that can be improved. But it is senseless to lay one's personal life and happiness on a shelf. It does not mean that the emphasis is to be always put on the personal life and entertainment. It means that all sides of life need to be balanced and paid enough attention to.
If a person is suspected of careerism, the following measures are to be taken:
1.the scope is to be broadened;
2.more time is to be spent on leisure and hobbies;
3.a circle of one's acquaintance is to be widened.
It may appear to be difficult to alter one's lifestyle. But it is necessary to start enjoying one's life before it is too late.
