Home Remedies For Conjunctivitis - Effective And Safe Natural Treatment

Conjunctiva is a thin membrane which is transparent and also covers the front of the eye. When there is an inflammation of the conjunctiva, it refers to conjunctivitis. It is a common form of eye trouble and referred to as having 'sore eyes'. When any one comes in direct contact with the infected person then it spreads. There is an epidemic of this ailment due to the unhealthy living conditions, overcrowding and dirty surroundings.
Some of the important symptoms of conjunctivitis are the inflammation of the eyeball and underside of the eyelids. Initially the eyes are red and itchy but later on there may be a watery secretion. In many cases this condition becomes serious and there is a formation of pus, which while sleeping dries up and makes the lashes sticky together.

Conjunctivitis is a result of eye strain or the infection due to virus or bacteria. It may be due to prolonged work under artificial light and the excess use of the eyes also contributes towards the disease. It may be due to the faulty living style or dietetic errors.

1. An effective home remedy for treating conjunctivitis is the mixture of Indian gooseberry and honey. Take a cup of gooseberry juice mixed with two tea spoons of honey and take it after mixing it properly. For treating conjunctivitis in a proper way drink this mixture at least twice a day.
2. Prepare a decoction which is made by a handful of dried coriander in 60 ml of water. This decoction is an excellent eye wash for treating conjunctivitis. This decoction helps in relieving burning, reduces pain and swelling. This decoction is very much helpful in the problem of bronchial asthma and chronic bronchitis.
3. Some vitamins like vitamin A and B2 have also proved to be beneficial in the treatment of conjunctivitis. So people should be liberal in consuming the foods rich in these two vitamins. Some of the foods which are rich in vitamin A are yoghurt, butter, wholemilk, carrots, green leafy vegetables, pumpkin, tomatoes, mangoes and papaya. Foods that are rich in vitamin B2 are bananas, tomatoes, citrus fruits, milk, almonds and green leafy vegetables.
4. Combined juices of carrots and spinach are very effective for the treatment of conjunctivitis. You must mix 200 ml of spinach juice with 300 ml of carrot juice.
