What is Epoxy?
Epoxy is an adhesive, paint, plastic or other material that is prepared as a polymer of an epoxide. The term "epoxy" is used to describe coatings made from two components, a combination of two different chemicals, called "resin". It classifies epoxy as a copolymer. Chemically, the resin is composed of a short-chain polymer, with an epoxide group at the end.

There are many advantages to using epoxy floor coating compared to using other types of resins for flooring. Most importantly, epoxy is known as the highest strength resin in the industry. They provide the strongest bond between resin and reinforcement and allow to create the lightest parts and the most durable modules.

Epoxy is generally chosen for its excellent mechanical properties and its dimensional stability. When cured properly, epoxy flooring offers good chemical and heat resistance and extremely low shrinkage. Epoxy resins are a great option for repair because they are combined with a variety of materials and previously cured materials. After heating most epoxy resins can be cured later to improve their strength, service temperature ...
... and dimensional stability. Parts must heal at or above their maximum service temperature; Otherwise, the epoxy may be distorted or deformed. The bonding of epoxy paint gives a strength that does not match other common materials like vinyl ester or polyester.
At Protexion LLP, we manufacture a full line of epoxy floor coating manufacturers; See a list of our products. We are able to provide customized solutions for your specific industrial floor coating needs.
What is Epoxy Flooring Coating?
Epoxy is becoming more and more popular as a flooring option in residential, commercial and industrial applications. Epoxy floor coatings are generally a two-part system consisting of Part A resin and Part B hardener. Speciality additives such as flow control, UV inhibitors, adhesion promoters, accelerators, etc. are added which produce coatings that work well in a wide variety of flooring applications. Using these characteristic itive detectors, epoxy floor coatings are formulated to achieve various performance characteristics such as faster treatment, increased abrasion resistance, higher chemical resistance, higher or lower viscosity and more.

Various pigments including decorative coloured quartz, vinyl flakes, glitter and other materials are added to the epoxy floor resin to achieve different functionality and aesthetic features. Finally, a variety of sand mixtures (slurry, trowel, broadcast, etc.) can also be added to the epoxy to create a thicker, more durable flooring system and to add a non-slip texture. Epoxy floor coatings are a very versatile flooring option and can be made and applied in a variety of performance and aesthetic properties.
Three Main Types of Epoxy Floor Coating
Three main types of epoxy resins are commonly used in epoxy floor and wall coatings: bisphenol A, bisphenol F and novolac. Epichlorohydrin and phenolic reactions are all formed and the physical and performance properties of phenolic compounds are determined by number and type. All three types of resins have certain specific advantages and require special eye detectors to give the formulators balanced properties that are desirable for coatings installers such as surface appearance and application properties.
Bisphenol A
The most popular type of epoxy resin used for epoxy coating is Bisphenol A Bisphenol A has a honey-liquid consistency and is a highly versatile resin. Bisphenol A is available in many molecular weights. The variety of their molecular weight makes bisphenol A particularly versatile for epoxy application. Bisphenol A is widely used for flooring systems in addition to solid coatings. Bisphenol A epoxy resin is the most common type for concrete coating because of its excellent adhesion, hardness, abrasion resistance and chemical resistance. Due to its particularly thick natural consistency, it usually contains inert detoxifiers and diluting ingredients that are added to bisphenol-A epoxy formulas to increase efficiency and viscosity. These private pits reduce crosslink density which reduces chemical resistance.
Bisphenol F
Bisphenol A epoxy will usually be more expensive than bisphenol A epoxy. This is because bisphenol F epoxy is able to be used for a wide variety of applications. Bisphenol F resins have low viscosity i.e. low additive additives and additives that translate into high chemical resistance. Bisphenol F is particularly chemically resistant and is more likely to be used as a varnish or varnish and in water pipes, adhesives, supermarket food packaging, plastics, dental sealants, and liners. Another advantage is that bisphenol F has a lower tendency to crystallize at lower temperatures than bisphenol F resins. Bisphenol F can be mixed with bisphenol A and other resins which reduce the viscosity and increase the resistance to crystallization.
Metallic Epoxy Floor Coating
This type of epoxy flooring is durable and has a visual effect that cannot be created with regular use of paint. Unique metal pigments are able to create a sense of movement and depth on the floor. This type of coating is very popular for commercial and high traffic retail applications, which has an amazing effect on any floor surface.
Clear Epoxy Floor Coating
What is a clear epoxy floor coating and what is it used for? Clear epoxy floor coating is commonly used to cover concrete flooring, as it has physical advantages. A clear epoxy floor coating can be used primarily on painted surfaces, to cover the paint composition with a more durable and long-lasting consistency. Clear epoxy floor coating is especially used for garage floor epoxy coating.
