Work From Home Postures That Can Wreak Havoc On Your Back
Whether you love it or not, working from home is a concept that is here to stay for many of us. With all the false starts and recurring waves of Covid, most companies have opted to stay shut for some more time. One of the biggest challenges that people have faced while working from their homes has to be regarding their seating position. While many people initially simply opted to continue working in whatever way was comfortable for them, more and more people are now realizing the ill effects of poor posture. While some are seeking joint pain relief, others have been relying on a gel for muscle pain to help get through the day. While these may be quick fixes, it is time for a permanent solution by examining your work posture as well as your sitting position.
One of the biggest temptations while working from home is to work on your bed. People usually choose to prop up a few pillows, plop their laptops on their lap and sit for long hours working in that position. This is extremely bad for your back and is an open invitation for trouble in the form of backaches and pains. For one thing, this position isn't ideal for working ...
... long hours. Plus, your mattress type may not be suitable for sitting for long hours. Some people even go to the extent of half-lying while working and this just exacerbates things further. Another option is to use any table as a desk and try and create a makeshift workspace for home. Most people doing such things usually don't understand the ergonomics of an office chair and desk set-up. Frequently, the height of the table creates an issue. If it's too high, you will end up hunching your shoulders and this could strain your neck and shoulders along with your back. If it is too low, you will need to arch your back and work over the table. The chair also is a major problem area that many people ignore. Stiff, wooden chairs are better suited for dining tables and not for working long hours at a desk. You should ideally invest in a good office chair which can be adjusted according to your height and the height of the table. In the long run, such minor things also matter greatly. Finally, if you are one of those who loves working on a couch - forget about it. Depending on your sitting position, this can create a range of issues that might cause you to run and seek the best pain relief spray.
It is time to stop living with such frequent pains and take proactive action to protect your bones and muscles. Get a good home-desk setup and consult with a good doctor if you still feel you haven't got the hang of how you should be sitting. Such measures will not only ensure that you manage to work well while at the same time preventing long-term damage to your joints and spine. If all else fails, make sure you do have pain relief sprays or a gel for muscle pain handy because in a pinch, its products like these that can ensure you are able to carry on your day. Start examining your working positions from today and initiate those small changes that will prove to be crucial in the long run.
