Lately, I've been obsessed with horror movies starring women (thanks to Kier-La Janis' book Psycho House). So I was very excited to see Max Strand's directorial debut, Goodbye, Honey. In this film, two women who have just met are forced to work together to survive after an encounter with a very dangerous man.

Despite a very effective build-up of tension, a great script and a very interesting style, I didn't feel the strong catharsis at the end of the film that I was expecting from the premise of Goodbye watch this movie on themoviesflix, Honey. There were several reasons for my disappointment, but the most crucial was the lack of character development for the two main characters.

Girl was being chased by a giant monster
The film opens with a shot of an unnamed young woman who is the first victim of kidnappers. The camera follows her as she tries to get out of the basement, believing someone is after her. This scene sets a precedent for very disturbing sound design. The sound of footsteps from above was so loud that it created the illusion that the girl was being chased by a giant monster. This trend ...
... persists in the film and it's really depressing when one of the characters asks," What is that sound?" but you can't hear the sound in question because there is music playing in the background. Of course, it all depends on personal preference, but sometimes I find a quiet film more intimidating than a loud one.

Are you a horror movie lover
In the next scene, Dawn (Pamela Jane Morgan) is introduced. She's a middle-aged truck driver who has driven too much and slept too little in the last 32 hours. She is independent, selfless and loves her truck. She's vacationing in a park in upstate New York, where the rest of the film takes place (minus the flashbacks) and where she meets Phoebe (Juliette Alice Gobin) The relationship that develops between the two women is tumultuous to say the least. Phoebe desperately needs Dawn's help to escape the kidnappers she's just discovered, but Dawn doesn't trust Phoebe because she's aggressive and unpredictable. Something must be done. Phoebe's character is consistent throughout the film. She's scared and nervous, but Dawn's actions and motives weren't clear to me. She changes very quickly, threatening Phoebe with a stick if she doesn't get out of the truck, or hitting other people in hopes that they will help her.

GoodBye Honey
Where to watch your favorite horror movies
What fascinated me most about the film was the beginning of the relationship that develops between the two women in a dangerous situation. Unfortunately, the two heroines go from being enemies to seemingly risking their lives for each other in just one scene. I feel that the weak development of their relationship is compounded by the weak development of each individual character. The long flashback showing how Phoebe got to where she is didn't really tell us anything about her character. The stylized sequence that shows the audience how long Phoebe has been in isolation focuses more on the emotions of the kidnappers than on Phoebe herself. This is unwelcome even in the film's climax and watch it on katmoviehd free. As the kidnapper (played by Paul Kelly) delivers his monologue, Phoebe looks on helplessly.

An interesting and suspense movie
Sad to say, in the quest for excellent horror films about women (or horror films in general), many films spend too much time on suspense and fail to create interesting characters. I think Goodbye Honey is technically and stylistically well done. Considering the way the film was shot and edited, it looks great. There were some scary moments. But towards the end of the film I felt empty because I couldn't connect with the people on screen and what was happening to them. "Goodbye, Honey" was scary and that's to be expected from a horrormovie, but I was expecting something more.
