Is Your Website Design Annoying?

Is your website design annoying?
You may be surprised to hear, but its not difficult to make an annoying website design. If you want your visitors to keep returning again, an annoying website design or ecommerce solution is likely to cause visitors to never return again, simply out of frustration. But what can make a website design annoying? Every individual will have their own opinions, however there are a number of web design features that should be avoided to reduce potential annoyance. We have asked the website designers at advansys to outline some of their most annoying web design features.
Avoid background music
Background music can be a great feature to include on some website designs as it can create an atmosphere, however when the music is out of content, or cannot be turned off, why is it necessary to have a midi/wav file running in the background constantly on every page? It may be great at first, but after time it will cause frustration, and loss of concentration when reading important information. Unless you are an online radio station or sell music CDs, we would recommend to avoid using background ...

Too much animation
Have you ever been on a site and its covered in flashing animated gifs, or over the top animated flash? What do you think of them? If done right this can look great, however most of the time not only does it look bad from a graphic design point of view, but it can also make it difficult for a visitor to read important information. Avoid animations with too much movement, as they can be very annoying.
Avoid huge font sizes
Huge fonts in titles can be trendy, however if a large font is used for body text then it can be perceived as shouting. We would advise to keep fonts between 10 and 14 point, unless you are designing websites for people with a disability.
Avoid tiny font sizes
In the same we advise to not shout at your visitors, it's also important that you can be heard. Make sure your choice of font is of a reasonable size so visitors can read the website content.
Avoid pop up windows
Most web browsers these days block pop up windows, however despite this, some webmasters keep using them as part of the website design. The most annoying factor of pop up boxes is that sometimes people can actually miss important information, contained in a blocked pop up window. Ensure to keep your important messages in a central place on your website design, and avoid those annoying pop up boxes.
