Nobody will deny that slipping under the covers when you know that your sheets feel good on your skin can lead to a restful, peaceful few hours before the next day’s responsibilities. The same is true for the pillowcases you rest your head-on.

That is why people often choose their bedlinen with great care, and the reason they may prefer certain fabrics over others. Take for example linen, the fabric that was once known only in Asia and Europe but which has made great inroads in other parts of the world in recent decades. Linen products these days are found and bought all over the world, and in many countries such as Australia and New Zealand, the USA and other parts, the fabric has become widely known and popular for its look, for its qualities such as, for example, great breathability for which it has become a firm favorite with many.

Customers that request and want to buy 100% pure linen items are no longer the exception as many more shops and retailers than in the past keep these items. Linen is made from the very fine fibers of the flax plant whose fibers are carefully harvested and extracted and then spun ...
... into yarn after which it is woven into the fabric which is used to manufacture different items.

This can be a meticulous process, which may be one of the reasons that 100% flax fabric is more expensive than some others, and why it has a certain allure which many others do not have – in addition to all its features that make it the fabric that is discerned from others for its specific look. Also, the fabric is rarer than most others that are used to manufacture clothes and other items, therefore more exclusive.

The flax plant is grown mainly in Western Europe in countries such as, say, Belgium and northern France and the southern Netherlands for example, in ideal weather conditions in fairly cool climates with moist soil – even though its history suggests it may go back to a region that stretches from the eastern Mediterranean to India and further east.

The fabric is exported to other parts of the world such as the USA, South America, Australia, and South Africa too where it is often used to manufacture linen bedding, curtains, fashionable clothes for both men and women – or even sold by the yard or meter for the customer to use it as they please.

Linen bedding, for example, is no longer seen only in certain homes where owners may have a better understanding of and experience with the European lifestyle: it is found all over in cities such as Sydney and Melbourne, New York and Lisbon – more so than before, because of better advertising and customers’ greater exposure to the fabric and its discerning qualities.

Of course, it helps that there are so many options when it comes to choosing your linen bedding, whether you are looking for single sheets or sets to include flat and fitted sheets, with or without accompanying pillowcases to round off your bedding. But, it goes further, and one can look at the different duvet covers too, or different bedspreads and bed skirts.

Of course, these are all individual choices to ensure you find what suits your bedrooms best – also in terms of decorative aspects that relate to color and the look, for example, a stonewashed or more standard look. What is important though is that there are choices to meet so many expectations and requirements, and once one starts looking around, your expectations may be surpassed for choice and the different collections of linen bedding – or other pieces. Lovers of linen do know that these days they have great options, which is often a good reason not to go back to other fabrics.
