I don't know whether traveling makes you wiser; but I can bet that it'll make you more open minded, humble and knowledgeable! (I guess that can be called as being wiser as well)

First of all, when you travel (not like a "tourist" going on package tours) you get to meet a lot of people and if you interact with them you'll get to learn many things about them and about life in general. I don't think there can be any better way to find out about the different ways of life other than traveling. Well, let me think twice .. du du du .. nope, there isn't any better way!

When you travel, slowly you'll be open to listen to (and entertain in you own mind) ideas and opinions much different from what you hold. Sometimes you'll be forced to listen to them and sometimes you'll be amused by them - but ultimately you'll understand that sometimes you need not agree with others to listen to what they have to say.

You'll have to sleep on park benches and railway platforms (that is if you are actually a traveler and not a "tourist"); you'll have to use the public toilet; you'll have share an umbrella with a stranger; you'll ...
... have to eat from the same plate with a guy in dirty clothes (Or maybe YOU will be the one in the dirty clothes! Which will be even better) - basically you'll be able to figure out the most important things in life. You'll be able to differentiate between the essential and the luxury!

And while you are going from places to places - without even noticing - you'll become more receptive and empathetic towards other human beings (and animals and plants). You'll become more humble.

And I think that's as good as becoming wiser!
