Beautiful, strong and shiny hair is every woman’s dream. But fulfilling this dream can get challenging. Tresses deserve maximum care, and simply visiting the hairdresser every fortnight shall never be enough. You must spend on the right set of hair care products daily to grow your manes the way you want. This too is not as easy as you think it to be. You may confuse yourself over the wide range of products available at pharmacies. The only way to make things easier is by determining your hair type.

What is your Hair Type?

Here are six factors to consider when identifying the same -

1. Dryness or oiliness of the scalp

Here is an easy way to test the same. Wash your manes like on normal days and let it dry naturally. Do not apply anything. After 1-2 days, press a tissue to your scalp. Know that you have oily locks if you find oil stains. If you find just traces, yours is normal. But if there is nothing, you have dry strands. Now different scalp type requires different treatment.

For instance, a dry scalp demands healthy fats and hydration. A moisturising shampoo, mask, and conditioner ...
... do wonder to the strands! Elave shampoo is a perfect friend to such scalp types.

Oily scalp, on the contrary, requires frequent shampooing. Look for formulations especially tailored for such scalps. Other than that, tonic and weightless conditioners help manage grease on strands.
However, if you have got normal scalp, try 2-in-1 formulations, where the bottle contains both shampoo and conditioner. Application of a hair mask during intensive treatment and shampooing twice a week is enough to maintain the shine on your tresses.

2. Dandruff

A dry and itchy scalp are signs you have dandruff. Watch out for flakes on your shoulders! It can get embarrassing in public. The perfect hair care products for people suffering from dandruff are anti-dandruff shampoos, shampoos for sensitive scalp like Elave shampoo, anti-dandruff masks and leave-in dandruff tonics. Read the labels of such products carefully and try to find substances like allantoin, zinc pyrithione and salicylic acid.

3. Chemically treated tresses

We are talking about coloured tresses. The constant application of dyes and colours damage the strands. To prevent further damage, steer clear of deep cleansing shampoos, sulphates in formulations and those for oily hair. The strong cleansing effect in the latter can cause the colour to fade and make your visits to the salon more frequent. Experts rather recommend hair care products specifically designed for coloured locks.

4. Hair loss

It’s a common condition in people nowadays. The causes are improper lifestyle, stress, dietary deficiencies and hormonal changes in women post-pregnancy. The only way to tackle hair breakage is through the application of serums, tonics and professional shampoos. You will find special conditioners to prevent hair thinning. Go on and use them. However, be patient with the results. It may take 3-4 months for your manes to show positive results.

5. Texture

The texture of your locks can either be fine or thick. If it’s none of the two, stay assured that yours is normal. Do you have the first kind of texture? Then, avoid using formulations rich in cream because that can weigh down your strands. Work on the volume by applying hair care items enriched with polymers, cellulose and proteins.

On the contrary, if the strands are coarse and thick, go for moisturising products, hydrating shampoos, masks and nourishing conditioners.

For normal texture, refer to point 1 for the best results.

6. Porosity

If the gaps in the cuticle of your strands are large, you have got highly porous strands. The problem with such types is that the locks soak up whatever you apply, asking for more and otherwise turning dry. Experts advise shampoos for damaged hair, cleansing conditioners, regenerating masks and oils to keep the moisture locked in.

On the contrary, low porosity calls for deep cleansing shampoos to get rid of the build-ups on your scalp. Medium porosity requires no special care. Following the hair care regimen for normal hair is sufficient here.

We hope you identified your tress type. Now, go ahead and shop for the right products to put an end to bad hair days.
