A 500 error code is a server response when something goes wrong. This could be a problem when resources are requested from the server or it could be due to outdated or problematic cookies and cache, but do error 500 error codes mean that Google bots will crawl the index less?

Servers communicate several status response codes to bots and browsers. The codes communicate if the page was redirected, successful, unsuccessful, or blocked. Google will identify this as a problem when the majority of the pages of a website show the 500 error, which is a sign that Google itself is the cause of the problem. They will slow down the crawling of the pages. Again over time, this may result in the pages not being indexed as Google will see the site as being down.

This means that you need to add 500 error code monitoring to your daily routine. Most publishers will check the search console weekly and that may be enough, but if you are seeing a regular problem, daily monitoring can help you quickly respond to unexpected problem pages and unforeseen circumstances.

Google sees a 500 error code as a problem that requires urgent attention and as a business owner, you will want to treat these with the same sense of urgency to reduce the risk of dropping in ranking or eventually, not appearing at all.

It's understandable for small to medium-sized companies to find their pages are not being indexed as they should due to 500 error codes. This is because they don't have time in their busy schedule to monitor these codes regularly, which can result in the Googlebot slowing down its crawling rate.
