It is the middle of the day. Suddenly, you are overcome by an intense sensation that is centered in the right side of your lower back. The pain spreads quickly and it feels as though a fiery hand is wrapping each finger around and gripping the lower portion of your spine. The suddenness of the pain is a cause of concern, as you do not often have back pain. What could potentially be going on in your body to react in this way? This article will explore some plausible explanations for the sudden appearance of searing lower back pain, specifically in the right side of your body.

Pain in the lower right part of your back is the most common form of back pain. The muscles in your lower back support your spine and dictate your posture, and give you strength in your ability to move. There are common muscles that often tire and tighten in the lower back. Tight, knotted clusters of muscles form "trigger points" that pull pain away from the spine and into the concentrated area. You are in pain- what next? Back pain can seriously affect your ability to accomplish tasks. You want to treat the pain as soon as it appears and apply preventative measures to keep the pain from reappearing. Chronic back pain develops from untreated pain. For relief that is long lasting, you should target all of the factors that are causing the pain. You want to move the joints and relax the tightened muscles. You also should stimulate the nerves and restore blood supply to the constricted and weak muscles. There are exercises available that also help you rebalance your pelvis, since the pelvic bones join at the base of your back, making lower right back pain common. Following are some specific examples of easing the pain over time:

- Make sure to stretch your muscles before putting them under stress. Stretch extensively before working out.

- Sudden and significant weight gain will cause your bodys center of gravity to shift, and put undue pressure on your pelvic bones. This may cause the joints to experience pressure and may ignite pain.

- Drink milk! Osteoperosis weakens bone density and puts you at a greater risk for pain and fracture when putting weight on your back or attempting to lift objects.

- If the pain is significant and often, visit a physical therapist and begin to learn certain stretches and exercises to strengthen the muscles and allow them to develop.

- Maintain good posture!

To immediately ease pain, STOP whatever you are doing that is causing the pain! If you are lifting a heavy object, put it down. If you are twisted in a yoga class, revert to childs pose. Apply ice, then heat to soothe the stressed muscles. Some anti-inflammatory medicines also help ease pain within a small amount of time.
