The Tata Nano, believed to be the World's Cheapest Car was launched on January 10, 2008 in New Delhi, India. This is a small, affordable city car which was primarily aimed at the Indian market. The Nano was Ratan Tata's dream project.

Not just the cheapest, the Nano has also been dubbed as the ‘people car'. The first batch of cars, as promised, has and is being delivered at Rs 1 Lakh. The second batch and thereafter, however, will bear the slightly heavier price tag. Of late, the Nano was the topic of discussions because of the fire accidents. Even after passing the stringent safety tests, the car appeared to be having flaws that were hard to determine. Luckily, a second test was conducted and all seemed fine with the Tata Nano. Though there's no recall, the car maker will be replacing the fuel pipes as an advanced safety measure.

The conceptualization of the Nano was a highly refined idea. Stressing on innovation and a new design outlook, the Nano was designed at the Institute of Development in Automotive Engineering, Italy. Ever since the car hit the Indian roads, it has been a matter of talk and the Nano ...
... has enough fame. The little car is available in Standard, Deluxe, and Luxury variants. The Deluxe and the Luxury variants have the AC and body-coloured bumpers. Alloy wheels, fog lamps, and ICE are the other features of the Luxury variant. Also to be noted, the Nano has 21 per cent space inside it and 8 per cent smaller exterior compared to the iconic Maruti 800.

The Tata Nano is 3.1 m long, 1.5 m wide and 1.6 m high. Though small, the ground clearance is ample and the Nano can easily manoeuvre on crowded city roads too. After tasting success of the world's cheapest car on the Indian road, the Indian car maker is thinking of bringing in an eco-friendly version of the Nano. The E-Nano, if launched, would again be the world's cheapest electric car. The E-Nano is believed to have attached or side solar panels. Further, a hybrid Nano is also speculated to make its entry.

The car has already scared the top auto makers after putting in splendid features in a little machine. Bajaj Auto has started working on a small car project to compete with the Nano and the new car may deliver 30km/litre. Everybody, Fiat, GM, Ford, Hyundai, and Toyota have got into the business of launching small and affordable cars for the middle-class consumers. The Tata Nanos that are seen on the Indian are very eye-catching, all thanks to the stunning range of colours. The small car can also be customized. The seating is high and the interiors have enough room for four adults. The car has the rear-wheel drive.

Tata Motors has been the recipient of various awards too including the Wall Street Journal Technology Innovation Award and the 2010 Edison Award; both in the Transportation category for the very impressive design accomplishment.
