XIX Common wealth game 2010 is an excellent opportunity for India to showcase its organizational capacity for hosting such a major event. It is for the first time that the nation is organizing such a big event. These games are organized after every four year and this time it is scheduled to be held in Delhi between 3rd October and 14th October. The opening and closing ceremony will be held at Jawaharlal Nehru stadium, Delhi.
Commonwealth games 2010 are the multi sports games. There are 17 sports being organized in commonwealth games 2010. These include - aquatics, archery, athletics, badminton, boxing, cycling, gymnastics, hockey, lawn bowls, netball, shooting, rugby sevens, squash, table tennis, tennis, wrestling and weightlifting. Total of 51 countries are participating in it.
City's development has advanced a lot by several means including transport system, games village, stadium, hotels, shopping malls, flyovers, power backup and so on. ... countries would be staying during sport events. Delhi would also be providing other amenities to athletes during commonwealth game 2010. Lanes have been reserved on selected highways for the athletes and free trip to Taj Mahal has been arranged for them.
There are many more changes for the preparation of the key event. The entire transport system has also been modernized. The network of Delhi metro has expanded a lot and it will continue to expand to include all venues of common wealth games. Flyovers and over- bridges are been constructed to make travelling hassle free. Delhi government is also planning to introduce 2000 low floor buses. New roads are also being built. Efforts are also been made to make inner and outer ring road signal free. The new terminal at Indira Gandhi International airport will also become operational.
Delhi is also making efforts to augment power generation capacity. Provision for power back up is also being made. In addition to all these preparation, English has been taught to cab drivers, waiters, staff member and gateman. The government is also planning to teach English to cab drivers in all tourist place.
It is evident that the preparation of common wealth games 2010 is in full swing. Besides, promoting closer ties with commonwealth countries, common wealth game 2010 would also promote tourism, sports and other related industries. These games would add to the prestige of the nation as many spectators and players will be coming to India.
