Exynos W920 Chipset: Samsung Unveiled New Smartwatch Chip

There has been a lot of speculation in the run-up to the release of the Exynos W920 chipset about what it may be able to bring to the table in terms of wearable performance – particularly with the release of Wear OS 3. Samsung has released all of the performance specifications for its new 5nm CPU ahead of the official unveiling of the new wearable devices.
When Samsung Electronics Limited unveiled the Exynos W920, it was a game-changing wearable processor based on better semiconductor technology. It will first be utilized in the next generation Galaxy Watch, which is scheduled to launch in August. The new CPU incorporates an LTE modem.
The 5-nanometer (NM) technology is the world’s first to be manufactured using an ultraviolet (EUV) production node. This enables next-generation wearable devices like smartwatches and fitness trackers to operate more efficiently. Wearables, such as smartwatches, are no longer simply a cool item to have around.
“They help us stay healthy, safe, and alert,” said Harry Cho, vice president of System LSI Marketing at Samsung Electronics. “In the future, Exynos W920-powered ...
... wearables will let you run apps with faster LTE connection user interfaces and more responsive user experiences.
Samsung’s Exynos W920 processor, which utilizes advanced 5 nm EUV technology, is the latest offering in wearable devices. For high-performance, energy-efficient computation, Arm A55 processing cores and an Arm Mali-G68 GPU are incorporated. It is said to be 20% quicker than the previous version on the CPU and ten times faster on the graphics.
Because of the Exynos W920’s improved core and speed, a quick app launch is possible on the QHD (960×540) display. Due to new features and enhancements, the Exynos W920 is now available in the lowest fan-out panel level package possible for wearables.
It removes the need to wake the smartphone from sleep mode and enables short peeks at the current time, alerts, missed calls, and other information without awakening the device from sleep mode. Rather than the main CPU, the W920 uses a low-power display processor, the Cortex-M55, which lowers display power consumption in AOD mode, according to Samsung.
The Exynos W920 has a 4G LTE Cat.4 modem and a GNSS L1 for tracking speed, distance, and elevation when outside.
The vendor claims that the Exynos W920 PMIC, LPDDR4 RAM, and embedded multimedia cards are all packaged together in a single package utilizing a system-in-package-embedded package architecture. Because of the small size of the CPU, the smartwatch can accommodate bigger batteries or more streamlined designs.
Smartwatches often include an always-on-display (AOD) feature that allows quick access to time, notifications, missed calls, and other vital information. This feature will increase the quickness factor of the smartwatch.
Instead of the primary CPU, the W920 uses a low-power display processor, the Cortex-M55, which consumes less power than the previous Exynos model while in AOD mode.
Exynos W920 is compatible with Samsung, a new integrated wearable platform developed in collaboration with Google. It will debut on the next Galaxy Watch model.
Market research firm Counterpoint Research has released its Global Smartwatch Model Tracker showing 35% YoY growth in Q1 2021. A 50% rise in demand for the new Series 6 devices helped Apple retain its leading position. Apple’s market share increased by 3% as a consequence. Sales of Samsung’s Galaxy Watch 3 and Galaxy Watch Active series increased 27% YoY. Its growth was below the industry average, and its market share fell somewhat. Huawei lost market share after a good quarter last year.
This is not a recent report, but it tells how Samsung planned its future launches and came up with a major collaboration to beat the competition.
Now when Google and Samsung collaborated, and the Smartwatch hardware and software both are getting better and unmatchable, then the competition is going to get on another level which can ultimately increase the sales.
