Centrifugal fans have earned their place in multiple industries. As the name suggests, these fans rely on centrifugal power that the rotation of the impellers produces. The blades drag the air and put it in a circular motion. The centrifugal forces speed up the air, creating an outward radial airflow.

The air then flows out through tubes or ducts. During rotation, the impellers throw the gas particles towards the casing of the fan. Thus, the centrifugal fans essentially increase the kinetic energy of the gas or air. It is possible to measure this kinetic energy as pressure due to the system resistance that the duct and the casing offer. The outlet ducts carry the gas to the exit.

Types of Centrifugal Fan Blades
Centrifugal fans may come with four different types of blades. Each blade type has a purpose of its own, based on which a fan is to be chosen for an application.

• Forward curve: These fans are best suited to low pressure and low-speed applications, such as exhaust, ventilation, and cleaning the air. These medium pressure high airflow fans find use in central station units, domestic furnaces, ...
... packaged air conditioning, and other places.
• Radial: These high-pressure fans deliver medium airflow and are particularly suitable for environments with plenty of gas, dust, and moisture in the air. This makes the radial-bladed fans a viable choice for industrial use.
• Airfoil: Among the different types of centrifugal fans, these are the most efficient. These fans can take care of large volumes of air at once and are suited for applications that involve clean air. These blades are particularly useful in induced and forced draft fans.
• Backward curve: These fans are yet another good option in terms of efficiency. These high flow and high-pressure fans find use in high-volume applications like ventilation, heating, and air conditioning. When the flow increases over the most efficient part of the system, the power decreases.

These fans vary significantly in terms of applications and whether a particular fan type is suitable depends on the purpose.

Uses of Industrial Centrifugal Fans
Centrifugal fans are not only very durable but also come with smart features that protect them from overload. Moreover, these fans are very versatile and can work with clean, wet, and dry air alike. These benefits, along with the fact that it is easy to clean centrifugal fans make them suitable for industrial applications. Although axial fans are another available option too, the centrifugal fans can deliver the same or higher airflow and greater pressure. These fans allow systems to release up to 80% stable energy and generate constant airflow.

• Centrifugal fans work well for dust control and pollution control applications.
• These fans see an application in the transportation of various materials and gas.
• The HVAC industry uses centrifugal fans very often in ventilation systems.
• It is also necessary to use these fans in cooling and drying systems, conveyor systems, and fluid bed aerators.

Other than the applications mentioned above, car engines of certain leading companies use centrifugal fans too. The pressure to volume curve is one of the main reasons that make these fans so useful.

Reitz India is a leading manufacturer and supplier of premium Centrifugal Fans that find wide usage in heavy industrial applications. Reitz India has incorporated latest technology in ID Fan and PA Fan design and fabrication to provide energy efficient solutions with high quality manufacturing standards.
