History Of Teleradiology
The teleradiology practice in India dates back to less than a decade. This method of teleradiology was first implemented in 1996 in India by Jankharia Imaging, which is a private sector in Mumbai. A system to transfer images to individual doctors from the imaging center was formed mainly to report CT scans of emergency cases.
The public demonstration of this technology came into practice initially by Siemens in 1997 at the Annual Congress of the Indian Radiology & Imaging Association. There was a demonstration shown on how to transfer radiological images to the conference site using a Siemens AR.C scanner. Then, the skills of teleradiology were demonstrated by Wipro GE for all ranges of scanners.
Teleradiology Solutions was the first company in India to introduce teleradiology services. It was formed in 2002 and was based in Bangalore. Dr Arjun Kalyanpur along with his staff and certified radiologists from US Board began reading scans for healthcare in the United States of America. These facilities were provided for places in India and Singapore too. Wipro Technologies was the first company to offer 3D reconstruction ...
... and nighthawk services.
Many startup companies like Marteck Solutions are showing interest to in the teleradiology market and also small enterprises are offering services and have started with preliminary studies. It has opened new avenues for businesses and the sub-specialization of radiology facilities. Gone are the days of waiting for radiologists to give their report findings as teleradiology has made it all so convenient for patients and doctors too.
