How To Find A Paint-like App On Your Mac

Windows PC comes with a basic image editing tool called Paint. But you will not find a built-in image editing program on MacOS on any version (latest or older). MacPaint was removed by Apple long ago.

However, Apple provides a nearly close app called Preview that allows users to access images, PDFs, and other types of files, but it is not like MS Paint. The Preview apponly offers basic editing options, including drawing, using text, and inserting shapes. The secret behind these features is that there is a button that combines all these features, and most people aren’t familiar with that.

Locate the hidden tools under Preview

Find the image that you have to edit in the Preview app. To access the image through the Preview app, you have to right-click on the image and then choose Edit With from the pop-up and tap on Preview.

Under the Preview app, hit on the Markup button looks like a pen within a circle. Now it will be visible on the left side of the search area. This button shows the Markup Toolbar. If you have to make changes to your image right away, hit on the Pencil icon to find it.

Cursor tools

There are Selection Tools find on the left to handle the cursor with four different options. You can use the cursor tool to select an area of the image for editing. You can also use rectangular shapes and an elliptical tool to choose an image’s area. Style and color toggles

Here is the required tool to adjust thickness along with colors and fonts. These tools are used at the time of editing sketches and shapes and also before it. You can use the Shape Style tool to adjust the thickness of lines that you have designed through other tools. Adding different types of textures and shadows is also easy with this tool.

The menu bar

This is the final tool for the Markup Toolbar. You might have noticed some missing features like methods for cropping and rotating an image. All these missing tools are found under the Tools option located under the menu bar. Many features related to Markup Toolbar are found within Annotate located under the Tools drop-down section.

What are the alternatives for Paint on Mac?

If you find yourself comfortable locating hidden features for photo editing on Preview, there is no need to look for Paint alternatives. But if it is difficult for you, you can go with Paint alternatives.
