It is often suggested that you update your Windows based system so as to allow the users to make their system compatible with all the new applications, safe from malicious virus attacks and offer the newly updated and integrated features. These integrated features and updates get installed on your computer system automatically with ‘Automatic Update' feature. As soon as your system is installed with these updates, your computer should be restarted.

Although these important updates prove to be successful but then at times, these also result in corruption of vital system file(s). In the cases of corruption, the operating system installed on the system becomes unbootable and the data saved in the hard disk drive becomes inaccessible. During these conditions, the user needs to replace the corrupt file with a new and valid copy of the same file.

If the user fails to perform the above task successfully, then he/she might be left with no option but to reinstall Windows operating system. While this solution works in almost all the cases, but this process results in data loss from all the partitions of your Windows ...
... installed computer system. In order to recover all the formatted partitions and data within the partitions, in case there is no data backup available, the user would have switch to a ntfs data recovery software. The above mentioned situation might also result in occurrence of an error message that is given below:

OS Loader v4.01

Disk I/O Error: Status 00000001

Windows NT could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:

Ntoskrnl.exe

Please reinstall a copy of the above file.

This error message occurs when you boot your Windows XP system after installation of some critical updates. After the occurrence of this error message, the system does not complete the boot process and results in inaccessibility of hard disk drive partitions and data stored within these partitions. As specified in the above error message, the ‘Ntoskrnl.exe' file has been damaged or corrupt. This file is required at the time of Windows XP startup.

In order to resolve the above boot error message and to access the hard disk drive partitions and data in them, you need to reinstall the copy of the file using the steps mentioned below:

1. Insert Microsoft Windows XP CD and press any key

2. Press ‘R' to select the ‘Recovery Console'

3. Choose Windows XP and enter the administrative password

4. Type command ‘expand d:\i386\ntoskrnl.ex_ c:\windows\system32′

5. Enter ‘Y' to overwrite the file

6. Type exit and try to reboot your system

If the above mentioned steps fail to resolve your damage issue and your data remains inaccessible, then you will need to reinstall the operating system and restore data from the backup. However, in case there is no backup copy available, you must opt for a powerful NTFS Data Recovery tool to perform NTFS data recovery.
