You have probably read a lot of immigration information about Australia during free time. Thus it would not be surprising that you might have already memorized every bit of basic fact about the country. However, there are actually still a lot more that you can learn about the land down under.

One of these bits of info that many would often want to is who are the famous celebrities that came form the country. Indeed, though Australia does have a lot of notable personalities, many people outside the country are often not familiar with them. And so, here are some of the Aussies that you have most likely seen before.

One of the most popular Australians to date is probably Steve Irwin, though most people from in and out of the country endearingly refer to him as the Crocodile Hunter. In fact it was the same show that launched him into international fame, as many tuned in to see his adventures with wild animals, particularly crocodiles. When he died in 2006, many people from both in and out of the continent expressed their sympathies to his family.

On on the other hand, another crocodile hunter has been hugely ...
... popular with many people around the world since the '80's, though this one is entirely fictional. In fact, the character of Mick Crocodiles Dundee was so popular that it is even more well known than Paul Hogan, the actor who played the role in all of the Dundee films. Even today, many film fans consider Crocodile Dundee as one of the classic comedy films of all time. However, it would be interesting to note that the film is also considered as being the culprit for the many stereotypical notions about Australians today.

Moving on, another Australian actor that is fast becoming popular with both movie buffs and comic book fans nowadays is Hugh Jackman. Though starring in a host of other notable films, including the critically acclaimed Australia (which he co-starred with fellow Australian Nicole Kidman), Jackman is more well known for playing the clawed superhero Wolverine in the X-Men and Wolverine series of films. One interesting note here is that Jackman was initially not considered for the role because of his height, he is six feet tall while the character he was portraying was supposed to be only 5'2. Through some clever camera tricks, the film makers were able to make him appear tall. The release of the first movie instantly launched him into stardom.

However, the first Australian personality that became famous worldwide is actually not a person in the literal sense. People got to know more about Australia and its wildlife when the show Skippy the Bush Kangaroo was shown overseas during the early seventies. Interestingly, contrary to the notion of many viewers that Skippy was a single animal, about eleven different kangaroos actually played the part. The kangaroos and their descendants still reside at Waratah Park in New South Wales, where the series was originally shot. The original sets are also still located here and now serve as an attraction to visitors. Interestingly, while the show was shown in more than a dozen countries during its run, it was never aired in Sweden, as psychologists argued that it might mislead many people into thinking that a kangaroo might be smarter than it really is.
