The State of Georgia allows its constituents to request access to arrest records. Subsequently, all counties under the state allow the same thing. In Cobb County, you can request for Cobb County Arrest Records at the Sheriff’s office. Not only is the Sheriff’s office in charge of imposing the laws in the county, it is also tasked with maintaining and providing the records to requestors.

It is allowed to request for your own records or that of another person. If you are requesting for your own, you will be given full access to your records. Other people that may get full access to your records include your lawyer, an immediate family member, presiding judge of your criminal case, a lawyer of a party that filed the charges against you, and members of the law enforcement agency that has jurisdiction over your case. Requesting for the records of another person is not that easy. Unless you are any of the aforementioned people, you will only be given the basic pieces of information regarding a record such as the name of the offender, the nature ...
... of the offense committed, the time and place where it was committed, other charges filed against the offender, and if it lead to incarceration or not, amongst others.

You can initiate your request by visiting the Sheriff’s office and procuring the right request form for arrest records. You may also procure the request form by downloading it from the official website of the Sheriff’s office. Fill out the request form properly by providing all the required information. Make sure that the information you are providing are up to date and are accurate. Failing to do so will mislead the person executing the search. Once the form is completed, submit it back to the office along with your personal contact information and a government-issued ID. The return period usually takes a couple of weeks.

You can also make the search through the Inmate Inquiry database or the Offender Search database of the county, which are both free to use. All you need to start a search is the full name of the records’ owner. It is possible that multiple results will be displayed in the database, especially if the records’ owner has the same name with several others. When this happens, you will have to check each one until you find the one you are looking for.

You can also make a state-wide search if you do not know which county has the records you are looking for. Georgia a central repository for arrest records called the Georgia Crime Information Center which is a database controlled by the state’s Bureau of Investigation. Unlike the Inmate Query and Offender Search database, the state-controlled database has a fee of $15 per transaction. Fees are non-refundable regardless of the outcome of the search.

Another way of obtaining arrest records is through websites not owned by the government. Such websites are authorized by the court to maintain and provide arrest records, along with other Cobb County Criminal Records, to the public. There are numerous websites that are in this kind of business but not all of them are reliable sources. Conduct a quick background check on them prior to choosing which one to conduct your search on so you will not be misinformed.
