Composting business in India.
Starting a Profitable Compost Business
Farmland is disappearing 10 to 100 times faster than it is being formed. To produce the required biodiversity in our soils, we need more and more organic matter, more and more biomass.
Compost is the biomass that is essentially the lifeblood of this planet, and reducing it has put our very survival in jeopardy. Not only does it improve the nutritional value of our food, but it is also our greatest water management tool. Simply put, compost feeds the soils, soils feed us.
It will be the most needed item in future there has been a sharp rise in demand already. In India, there is a good response from farmers to compost made by the cities using wet waste generated at homes. One of the BBMP waste processing centers on the outskirts of Bangalore has seen farmers picking up to 25000 tons of compost in March.

... Challenges in a composting biodegradable waste business
A composting company is influenced by mainly three factors:
1. Segregated Waste
The type of products that are being brought in is the most significant factor. Sometimes, people begin with great enthusiasm, only to be disappointed by the everyday stress of stench and the unsanitary way in which they handle things.
The most popular blunder is bringing in mixed waste to be separated by hand. While it may seem to provide job opportunities in developing countries, it is difficult to separate wet from dry waste. People leave because the foul odour emanating from rotting waste is intolerable. Only separated wet waste should be brought into the composting system, as it can be treated directly without any manual separation. Obtaining such waste is difficult, particularly in areas where there is little to no understanding of the differences between wet and dry waste.
2. Quality of compost produced
The waste from homes (Green Waste) like vegetable and fruit scraps, leftover food, eggshells, bones, etc. is rich in Nitrogen and proteins, this waste needs to be mixed with a good amount of dry garden (Brown Waste) droppings like dry leaves and twigs. A good ratio is 30 Brown: 1 Green. Producing compost with this in mind will smell good and sell well.
3. Cost of composting
There are popular methods such as pit composting and vermicomposting, but these are slow, labor-intensive, and may not be feasible to implement given the time and space requirements for large composting volumes. Organic waste converters, also known as organic waste composters, are machines that can turn up to 30% of organic waste into rich organic manure in less than 24 hours. Some are very efficient and generate high-quality compost, while others merely burn the waste and call it compost. TALLBOY organic waste converters can produce completely digested, highly nutritious compost with an earthy odor for about Rs.2/- per kg.
Is composting a profitable business?
When people live in degraded environments, they are trapped in a cycle of poverty and environmental degradation, and they pass their poverty down from generation to generation. Investing in the restoration of the degraded ecosystem is undoubtedly a cost-effective way to address many of the issues we face today.
This industry has the potential to employ a large number of people while also putting us on a road to long-term sustainability. Carbon infiltrating more and more rainfall, providing us with food protection in areas where drought is already occurring — it’s incredible.
Commercial Composting Business Plan
All Bulk Waste generators must now process wet waste inside their premises, according to the Swacch Bharat Abhiyan’s SWM rules 2016. There has been strong momentum in many cities in India to achieve the yearly goals through robust processes to enforce these laws. Every year, the Swachhta Survekshan conducts a national audit to rank the accomplishments of various towns and cities across India in meeting their cleanliness goals.
The India Model is perhaps the world’s first and most promising waste management project, focusing on highly decentralized waste management practices that have already resulted in the establishment of many “Zero Garbage Zones”.
Onsite composting business service is a great way to strengthen and expand this initiative so that it can be introduced more efficiently and easily while still generating revenue. A typical bulk waste generator generates 100 kg of garbage, which contains both wet and dry waste. A two-person team can comfortably manage eight to ten such apartments in a given area and earn upwards of Rs.100,000 per month from composting business.
