Starting a Profitable Compost Business

Farmland is disappearing 10 to 100 times faster than it is being formed. To produce the required biodiversity in our soils, we need more and more organic matter, more and more biomass.

1. Segregated Waste

The type of products that are being brought in is the most significant factor. Sometimes, people begin with great enthusiasm, only to be disappointed by the everyday stress of stench and the unsanitary way in which they handle things.

The most popular blunder is bringing in mixed waste to be separated by hand. While it may seem to provide job opportunities in developing countries, it is difficult to separate wet from dry waste. A good ratio is 30 Brown: 1 Green. Producing compost with this in mind will smell good and sell well.

3. Cost of composting

There are popular methods such as pit composting and vermicomposting, but these are slow, labor-intensive, and may not be feasible to implement given the time and space requirements for large composting volumes.
