Measuring haemoglobin and sharing accurate results are extremely important for multiple conditions, across the world, especially India. For example, diabetes patients are prone to anaemia, malnourished children are prone to anaemia and pregnant women are prone to anaemia, as well!

Considering the pandemic and how everybody is stuck at home, it is not really probable to go to the lab every time you need to get a haemoglobin test done. Forget the danger of the pandemic for a moment; the mere fatigue will cause you to be reluctant to go to the lab ever again.

The solution comes in three words: Point of Care!

Yes, a Point of Care haemoglobin test machine is relatively common now as opposed to the earlier times. NGOs from India and from across the world have taken anaemia tests to the remote corners of India. Of course, there is the government at their backs, trying to do right by the people (at least, that is the hope!) who have accessibility issues when it comes to healthcare. Even in this day and age, there are plenty of villages in India ...
... where they might have to go miles availing only a barely frequent public transportation to the hospital to get a test, for example!

Checklist for choosing the right haemoglobin test machine

1. Check the background of the company that promotes the product – see if it has been around for a long time

2. Check the accuracy of the machine – see if this data is provided on the website

3. Decide on the haemoglobin test machine price – yes, you cannot put a price tag on health but you can decide on a reasonably priced test machine which has relatively accurate results.

4. Choose Point of Care – it goes without saying that convenience trumps everything else; a Point of Care machine is the instrument of convenience, quite literally!

5. How quick is the process – the testing process should be done in a matter of hours or less. That is how much technology has progressed. Also, it should not take more blood than required – somewhere around 15 micro litre is ideal!

6. Design – These days, haemoglobin monitors with LCD monitors and memory chips are available. Ensure you get the machines with sufficient memory capacity and clarity on the screen.

Please Note: You might also have to check if it is self-calibrated with a CE Marking (indicating that it is approved by the EU)

Whatever said and done, Point of Care machines are the best, cost-effective options now for haemoglobin measurement and if you keep the above points in mind, you can choose a very good haemoglobin test machine.
