Any infusion drink that is devoid of tea leaves is categorized under herbal tea. It is also known as tisane. Concoctions prepared from the roots, seeds, leaves and buds of various plants (found in various tea stores) by adding boiling water to their grounded forms, are used widely all over the world for the various benefits they provide. Herbal tea has been in use in many cultures for ages because of its healing powers. The benefits provided by herbal tea have been lately proven by scientific research as well.

Tea stores all over the world stock up on many different herbs and even provide readymade concoctions that can be drank with hot water. Although, the benefits of many herbs are well known, there are some herbs which should not be used as they have some adverse effects on the body. Comfrey and Lobelia are a few herbs that are unsafe for usage on a daily basis because of the alkaloids and nicotine like toxins present in them. However, there are over 60 herbs easily available in tea stores that can be mixed and matched to make herbal teas for treating any and every kind of condition.

This herb is also quite effective in lowering blood pressure and is a potent antiviral and antibacterial agent. Chamomile is an herb used by Egyptians since the dawn of time. The digestive benefits of this herbal tea are unparalleled. However, consumption of this herbal tea should be minimal since, they also act as a sedative. Peppermint tea is a widely used herbal tea to treat upset stomachs and indigestion. Menthol, the active ingredient in peppermint and other mint leaves is well known for its sinus treating powers. Another herb you can find in every tea store is Ginseng. Herbal tea made from Ginseng roots is taken daily in China because of its ability to fight off stress and strengthen the body.

Another excellent substitute to green tea is the Rooibos tea. This red coloured drink is rich in antioxidants and has a sweet taste with a nut like smell. This provides the kick of coffee without any caffeine. Dandelion tea made from the leaf extracts of dandelion plant is a well known its skin care effects and liver and gall bladder effects. There are many more herbal tea ideas that you can get from your local tea stores or over the net. Mormon tea, mushroom tea, Kombucha tea, Pennyroyal tea, fruit tea etc. are a few readymade mixes that you can procure form these tea stores.

Whether you want tea with caffeine or not, there are many herbal teas that will meet your needs. You only need to visit your local tea store to see that the variety seems endless.
