Brown Bread Vs White Bread | Which Is Healthiest One?
With the increase in health and hygiene awareness, many consumers switch from white bread to brown bread or wholewheat bread at the breakfast table. However, only a few people know why brown bread is considered healthy, or how it keeps you healthy. As a result, most people succumbed to the company's marketing strategy, which adds caramel to white bread to brown it and promote it as healthy and delicious.
To understand more about the differences between whole wheat and white bread, let's take a look at what makes a grain of wheat. All wheat grains can be divided into three parts: “The bran, which forms the outer shell, makes up 15% of the grain and is rich in fiber, vitamins, minerals such as B1, B2, B3, B6, magnesium, iron, zinc, and phosphorus. whereas, the core consists of the endosperm, which makes up more than 80% of the grain and consists of proteins and carbohydrates; the rest of the wheat grain is made up of the germ and also contains a good ...
... amount of vitamins, minerals, fats, and proteins.
White bread consists only of the endosperm part of the bread. The nutritious and fiber-rich part of the wheat grain is removed from it. On the other hand, brown bread includes all parts of the grain "The bran, the endosperm, and the germ" make it more nutritious and healthier than white bread.
Brown bread is considered less processed than white bread. In white bread, after removing bran and germs the potassium bromide, chlorine dioxide gas are used to bleach the flour. In addition, some countries recommend that manufacturers add minerals and other nutrients removed from the white bread during processing to the white bread. Hence, it is known that white bread is made from “fortified flour” while brown bread is made from “whole wheat flour”.
Brown bread also differs in texture from white bread. White bread is often preferred as it is softer than Brown bread. This is because, in Brown bread, the bran portion of the wheat kernel pops the bubbles that form during baking. White bread becomes soft. In addition, milk and sugar are sometimes added to white bread to make it more delicious and soft.
Summary:
1. Brown bread consists of whole grains which are rich in vitamins, minerals, and protein, whereas, white bread only consists of endosperm which is rich in protein and carbohydrates. Therefore, Brown bread is considered healthier than white bread.
2. In the manufacturing process, white bread is bleached with chemicals in an artificial process and enriched with vitamins and minerals, which does not happen in the case of brown bread.
3. In terms of taste and texture, white bread is softer and spicier than whole grain bread
