Industrial Weighing Platforms
The most common platform scale is probably the bathroom scale. However, weighing platforms in industrial settings are actually very different from that type. Industrial weighing platforms must work in the harshest conditions such as exposure to chemicals and hazardous materials, the repeated weighing of heavy loads, and frequent shocks. This mean that industrial weighing platforms must be built tough with the most rugged and durable of materials. There is no standard, uniform size or capacity for industrial weighing platforms. Many different variations are available with capacities ranging from a gram to several thousand pounds.
Features to look for in an industrial weighing platform:
* The industrial weighing platform should use strain gauge technology. This type of scale technology is industry tested and highly accurate and reliable.
* Stainless steel load cells are preferred, and should be properly ensconced into the welded frame of the scale. This assures a durable, shock resistant design which will last years longer than other types of industrial weighing platforms. This is because the use of ...

* Industrial weighing platforms should ideally sit on four premium, free motion feet which create a point load on the load cells and allow for highly accurate and precise weighing, even on uneven or bumpy surfaces. Machined “ball and socket†levelers provide this.
* The best industrial weighing platforms have very low profile platforms (under two inches), which makes loading very heavy objects much easier. If you anticipate a need for a ramp for some of your weighing objectives, purchase it with the scale to ensure the best compatibility and ease of use. The ramp should also be constructed with welded steel to ensure the highest level of durability. Ramps for industrial weighing platforms can vary in length from under two feet (twenty inches) to as long as four feet. Some scales have no need for ramps because they are pit mounted platforms which are installed directly into a pit, creating a weighing platform that is flush with the floor.
* Large, digital, push button displays, often detachable or with swivel mounts, are fairly standard for industrial weighing platforms and makes reading scale results almost effortless. Some even come with data storage and USB ports or Ethernet connections so weight information can be directly transferred into spreadsheet software.
* Parts counting functions are not uncommon features for industrial weighing platforms. This function is very useful for weighing and counting bulk items such as stampings or many pieces of small hardware parts that are being produced in huge quantities. Most scales also have unit conversion and tare functions as well.
* Many industrial weighing platforms are outfitted with set point controllers, which allows the scale to perform in a predetermined manner every time a targeted weight is met.
* Some industrial weighing platforms are equipped with wheels and are battery powered, making them portable. These scales are very useful in industrial environments where sometimes it makes more sense to bring the scale to the item that needs to be weighed, rather than the other way around.
