The Hazards Of Prescription Sleep Aids
Prescription sleep aids should not be taken by anyone that suffers from mild, moderate or severe sleep apnea. That's a very dangerous combination. Drugs, alcohol, herbs or any other kind of sedative could cause a person to stop breathing all together.
It's not unusual for a person with sleep apnea to consider over-the-counter or prescription sleep aids. Their sleep is often interrupted throughout the night. They are tired and irritable throughout the day. They feel that if they could just get a good night's sleep, everything would be okay.
If you or someone that you love suffers from mild to severe sleep apnea, please recognize the danger of muscle relaxants or sedatives. In order to get a good night's sleep, there is another alternative.
You must follow your doctor's instructions, whether that is the use of a continuous positive airway pressure device, splints, special pillows or other treatment for mild to severe sleep apnea. But, of course, those things can sometimes interfere with a person's ability to get to sleep, which frustrates many people, because they were having enough trouble sleeping ...
... because of the apnea episodes.
The safest and most effective solution is brain entrainment. Brain entrainment recordings produce tones at a specific frequency that matches relaxed brainwaves. The brain's natural response to the tones is to try and match them. As it does that, you become more and more relaxed. Very soon, you will find yourself sound asleep. But, because it is a natural state of relaxation, not brought on by sedatives, there is no danger.
There are other dangers and side effects of prescription sleep aids, as well. One of the greatest dangers has been recently identified in some of the major cities around the US. That is an increased number of car accidents.
Insurance agencies have found a connection between nighttime use of sleep aids and morning car accidents. It takes at least eight hours for the drugs to wear off. The directions indicate that a person should not take the drug unless they have time for a full night's sleep. But, the recommendation is six to eight hours. Six hours is not necessarily enough time for the sedative effect to end, particularly if a person is sitting in traffic during rush hour.
Severe sleep apnea can be very serious and could require surgical correction. Talk to your doctor about your options. But, whatever you do, don't take over-the-counter or prescription sleep aids. Try Yan Muckle's brain entrainment CDs. They are safe and effective
