Properties
Sulfate turpentine is a transparent, slightly oily, mobile, volatile liquid with a pine smell and a burning taste. The color can range from colorless to slightly yellowish and yellow. The reagent is fire hazardous and toxic to humans. It does not dissolve in water, it dissolves well in acetone, ethyl alcohol and diethyl ether, carbon disulfide and chloroform. It dissolves fats and oils, rubber, resins by itself.

From a chemical point of view, turpentine is a fairly active reagent. Reacts with atmospheric oxygen (oxidizes), becoming thicker and more yellow. In the presence of strong oxidants such as chromic anhydride, concentrated nitric acid, combustible organic compounds, may ignite. Reacts with ozone, nitrogen oxides, phosphorus, sulfur; iodine and other halogens; derivatives of halogens, potassium permanganate. Exposure to acids leads to isomerization and polymerization.
The danger of turpentine
Turpentine is a moderately toxic substance, but its ingestion can be fatal. Skin contact causes irritation, sometimes even chemical burns. Turpentine vapors have a negative effect on the respiratory system, the nervous system, and irritate the mucous membranes of the eyes.
