What does a pharmacist do?
Combines and dispenses appointed drugs in a healthcare facility environment. Also responsible for transferring prescriptions, handling incoming physician calls, logging data into the computer, and drug utilization review.
Requirements
A bachelor's degree and/or an advanced degree in pharmacy and is certified and educated to practice.
They must be familiar with customary concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
Performs a variety of tasks. A certain degree of creativity and latitude is required. Typically reports to a manager.
Education and training
Pharmacists who are educated in the United States must earn a Pharm.D. degree from an well known college or school of pharmacy. The Pharm.D. degree has taken over from the Bachelor of Pharmacy degree, which is no longer being awarded. Median yearly income for pharmacists in May 2008 was $106,410. The middle 50 percent earned between $92,670 and $121,310 per annum. The lowest 10 percent earned less than $77,390, and the highest 10 percent earned more than $131,440 a year.
