Hajj is significantly ranked as the fifth pillar of the Islamic faith and is obligatory for every Muslim who has the physical, mental as well as financial capability for it. It is an act of performing an annual pilgrimage in the holy city of Makkah by all the Muslims collectively traveling through hajj packages during the 8th to 12th of Dhul-Hijjah i.e., the last month of an Islamic lunar year. Performing Hajj is mandatory for every Muslim once in a lifetime, but as said earlier, only for those who can afford it by all means.
Here's a brief description of why hajj is performed by Muslims.

Spiritual Aspects.

The rituals of Hajj require pilgrims to go through a lot of physically demanding activities, as part of rituals, in which a pilgrim seeks forgiveness from Allah Almighty. Such an act of worship boosts Muslim’s faith, trust, and love of the creator – Allah, Holy Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (SAWW), and other messengers. In fact, it is evident from the hadith that performing hajj leaves a person wholly purified i.e., free from ...
... all his/her past sins.
Subsequently, this act of dedicated offerings enhances the love and fear of Allah for the believer as well teaches to rely upon him only.

The portrayal of Muslim Unity.

Performing Hajj is an exemplary sight of Muslim unity and brotherhood in front of the whole of the world. This religious duty of Muslims leads them to the emotions of brotherhood, quality, and unity among the Muslim community as well as non-believers. Undoubtedly, nurturing the spirit of the Muslim ummah.
During this annual Muslim convention, pilgrims from across the globe gather in Makkah and stand before Allah Almighty in Ihram regardless of the difference of colors, races, and languages with the pure intention to follow the noble goals.

Sunnah of Hazrat Muhmmad (SAWW).

For Muslims, the Hajj pilgrimage re-enacts the holy actions of Prophet Muhammad’s (SAWW) ‘farewell pilgrimage’. Hajj remains the 5th and final pillar of the Islamic faith but is only a requirement for those Muslims who are able to afford the trip as well as remain physically/mentally strong enough to complete the pilgrimage. Moreover, the History of Hajj also dates back to the time of Hazrat Ibrahim (AS).

Mentioned in the Holy Quran.

Allah Almighty has also mentioned the significance of performing Hajj in the Holy Quran in Surah-al-Hajj. From which it is evident that the Hajj pilgrimage is obligatory for Muslims.

Muslims perform Hajj pilgrims with an aim to cleanse their souls and revive their relationship with Allah Almighty. Moreover, the performance of hajj is also meant to strengthen the bonds among Muslims themselves. Since pilgrims come from the four corners of the earth for the pilgrimage, praying and offering the holy rituals together instills in them the feeling of brotherhood and unity.
