OST file or Offline Storage Files of MS Outlook is an outstanding feature to work in offline mode. OST files do get corrupt likewise PST files. Over sizing of OST file can land you up in major trouble and you might sit back with corruption in OST file, which is quite apprehensive.

Consider a practical scenario where you start MS Outlook or try to open an offline folders .OST file; instead of opening of file you may receive the following error message:

Errors have been detected in the file file_path. Quit all mail-enabled applications, and then use the Inbox Repair Tool.
Here, file_path is the path to the .OST file.

Reason behind this issue

This terrible problem occurs because the .OST file has a 2 GB file size limitation. So whenever, OST file crosses that limit, the error message occurs when it is executed. The Inbox Repair Tool cannot correct this problem. At this point of time, you need to perform email migration from OST to PST in order to get back all lost, inaccessible OST file data.

Resolution

First of all try recovering data using 2 GB truncation inbuilt utility that comes ...
... with MS Outlook. For that follow the given steps:

1.Start the Ost2gb.exe program.

2.Click Browse to select the oversized .OST file, and then click Open.

3.Click Create, select the name and location of the truncated data file that you want to create, and then click Save.

4.Type in the amount of the data that you want to truncate in the .OST file. There is not a correct amount that you use. You can receive the best results if you use 20 to 25 MB, but you may have to truncate more or less.

5.Run the Inbox Repair Tool on the smaller .OST file.

6.Open the repaired .OST file in Outlook.

7.If the file opens, right-click the root folder of the .OST, click Properties, and then click Compact Now to start the compression.

8.If the file does not open, discard the truncated .OST file, and repeat the process with the original .OST file. Truncate more data than in the first attempt, and try the process again.

If still not getting the solution, then go with email migration software especially designed to repair corrupt OST file and hence converts OST file to PST file. Software recovers emails from OST file which get damaged due to 2 GB file size limitation issue. Email messages including folders, posts, appointments, contacts, tasks, meeting requests, journals and notes etc present in the file are displayed in a tree like structure so that you can select and save the data separately into a PST file at a desired location.
