Are you a victim of the recession? Did you lose that job that you hoped would bring security? Do you go to office with the fear that today may be the pink slip day?

If you can relate to any of these questions, you are one of the many who have either already lost their jobs or may lose it as a consequence of the huge upheaval sweeping the country since late 2008. The year 2010, despite high hopes, isn't going exceptionally well for many businesses. Recruitment is still in "freeze mode", with only a few countries and select businesses opening up to the market.

The recession may have swept the ground from under your feet but that does not mean the end. The economic crisis has also given rise to new jobs and roles that open up a vista of opportunities to professionals and skilled people. You may not necessarily get the job you always coveted. You may not even get a job that aligns with your previous experience. But, if you are willing to start humbly and put in a lot of hard work, you will survive the recession. Who knows, you may even come to love your new work.

The outsourcing industry has been one of the ...
... biggest winners of the recessional times. As businesses cut corners to reduce expenses, non-core operations are offloaded to outsourcing companies such as HR providers and call center services. Businesses have been compelled to lay off employees to maintain minimum profit margins. However, they still need to serve existing customers at the same levels of efficiency as before. As it is, customers are being very picky due to budget restrictions. If they see a company compromising on product or service quality, that's pretty much the end for it.

To manage, businesses take advantage of 24x7 answering services that function as secretaries taking calls, orders, handling inquiries, and much more. Temporary staffing services enable businesses to maintain adequate personnel without the expense and pain of hiring interviews and the rigmarole of employment processes. Temporary staffing providers can equip businesses with professional accountants, IT consultants, administrators, and even janitors. Medical billing providers, fulfillment providers, payroll services, telemarketing services, are some of the outsourcing companies that are in demand as they operate on the economies of scale and save hiring businesses a packet.

As a professional, you too can join hands with these companies. Instead of a job, you can try freelance work. You can work more for less during the recession, and once it blows over, you'll have a strong portfolio and a solid repute to bank on. If you have the talent, you can start a home business by making things at home and selling them on websites such as eBay for a profit. You can even join web designing and development services if you have the skills for it. These are in high demand as many businesses are going online to cut expenses.

The adage "a silver lining behind every dark cloud" can hold true for you too. All that matters is your attitude and the courage to reboot your life.
