How To Deal With Muscle Soreness Effectively

Are you woken up by sudden leg cramps, or do you experience unprecedented pain in your legs while running? Well, muscle cramps or muscle soreness is not uncommon at all, and can affect anybody at any given point of time. Whether you are a professional athlete or an occasional runner, or somebody who does not participate in a lot of physical activities, it is likely that you may have experienced muscle cramps or soreness. Before we begin to address how you can treat the problem, it is important to understand why does it occur in the first place, and what you can do to prevent them from affecting your daily routine.
Muscle soreness and the pain that one experiences because of it may differ from person to person. The reason why is determined by other lifestyle factors like age, fitness level, etc. Muscle soreness are of two types–acute muscle soreness and delayed onset muscle soreness. Acute muscle soreness is also known as immediate muscle soreness, and is caused due to the buildup of lactic acid in your muscles. As the name suggests, one experiences the burning pain almost immediately, and it can also be relieved quickly ...
... through basic over-the-counter treatments such as using fast relief gel or pain relief spray.
Unlike immediate muscle soreness, the symptoms of delayed onset muscle soreness are experienced after a while. For instance, if you resume heavy workouts after a while, and the next day you experience pain and stiffness in your muscles, chances are you are experiencing delayed onset muscle soreness. The pain is caused because of tears in your muscle fibers and the surrounding tissue that are strained during intense workouts. Since your muscles are worn out more seriously, it may take a while to relieve your pain, but it is not that difficult and can be treated using common pain relief treatments.
While muscle soreness, whether immediate or delayed, can affect really fit individuals as well, there are some lifestyle changes you can bring about to help prevent it from happening regularly. For instance, having a proper and a regular workout routine is essential. Often, inactivity is considered to be a cause for recurring muscle soreness or cramps. In addition, if you are already particular about staying active and maintaining a proper workout routine, then it is advisable that you don’t over-train or over-strain your muscles while you are at it. Gradually increasing the intensity of your workout over a span of time is a great way to prevent minor injuries and muscle cramps. Another essential lifestyle change that can help prevent muscle cramps is to include anti-inflammatory foods in your diet, and other foods that are replete with macronutrients like protein, essential fats and carbohydrates. Research suggests that eating food that is rich in anti-oxidants help prevent but also relieve muscle soreness and pain. If you experience cramps or muscle soreness regularly, then it is advisable that you include muscle pain relief treatments, such as cold and heat therapy for effective results.
