Looking At Some Options To Eliminate Loud Sound

We experience noise around us all day long, and in most cases, we get used to the idea – if it does not interfere with our ability to hear properly if it does not lead to NIHL (Noise-Induced Hearing Loss), which is starting to affect more and more people all over the world.

Hearing loss has a very negative effect on those suffering from it, and therefore audiologists and other specialists are constantly studying various aspects of the condition – also how to help prevent it where possible. And yes, in many cases it can be prevented or controlled, or the effects of what causes it, eliminated.

Obviously, where noise is present to the extent that it causes deafness or limited hearing, steps should be taken to make sure it is looked at as fast as possible. Many individuals are at risk, for example, professionals – and audiences – that work in, say, the music industry where loud sound forms part of their day when they perform either at rock concerts or other get-togethers; security personnel and many in the military that are exposed to loud sounds and noise regularly; many workers in factories; hunters and ...
... shooters that have to listen to loud gun and rifle fire regularly. These and other professionals are indeed exposed to the real possibility of NIHL.

Even though more emphasis has been seen to be placed on the reasons for NIHL only more recently, it is not new. Already a few decades ago hunters and shooters and other individuals started to protect their ears by wearing disposable wax plugs, for example, when they knew they were going to be somewhere noisy such as at the shooting range.

Of course, this already helped a lot, but you had to remind yourself all the time to make sure you have enough of these available; also, they are often uncomfortable to wear, and they eliminate sound to the extent that you have to remove them every time you do want to listen to someone talking to you, or to the sounds of the deer you are stalking in the bush, or to the voice of the instructor when he wants to be heard.

These issues prompted new developments and better plugs, but new options were also being looked at, such as ear muffs which were introduced. The muff is superior to the disposable plugs insofar as you have your set with you all the time, in your bag, with your hunting gear. You do not have to replace them all the time; they are certainly more comfortable over your ears than having a wax plug pushed inside that could easily make you believe you are totally deaf - even though they are often uncomfortable and cumbersome to wear over the years.

Therefore the latest, the most recent introduction of electronic earplugs which are custom made for clients to wear inside their ear is a great advancement. This is a relatively new addition to the list of hearing protection aids or devices. Buyers order a pair (one for each ear) from a service that manufactures these devices from a mold taken of the customer’s ear, which means they fit perfectly.

They are also technologically advanced insofar as they are designed to operate electronically as a digitally enhanced device that makes it possible to eliminate certain – loud – sounds above unacceptable dB (the unit that measures the loudness of sound) while at the same time allowing the user to hear the sound that does not harm the ear, i.e. sound at low dB.

What makes them so special for many is the fact that individuals are offered a pair made specifically for their ears, with features that can be adjusted for personal circumstances and preferences too. These electronic earplugs are gaining ground all the time and seem to become, for many, the automatic choice these days. They are, more than before, available from specialist retailers – and good recommended websites.
