The Most Popular Things At An Arcade!
Your favourite spot as a teen to just have fun or goof around was probably the arcade. Any weekend trip to the mall, a visit to the arcade fun zones for kids was a must. Even if you didn’t have enough time to play or try out all the games, you’d still at least make sure you get a round on your favourites. And your favourite was usually everyone else’s favourite as well, as they were the most popular games in the place. So, let’s take a jog down memory lane and check out these nostalgic games.
Air Hockey Madness!
Let’s just get this one out of the way right in the beginning, as it’s on all our minds already. Air hockey was, is and probably always will be the most sought after game at an arcade. For those of you living under a rock, air hockey is an indoor 2 player sport played on a special low friction table with two-player held strikers and a puck. The aim of the game was to strike the puck into a slit on the table. Grab a friend or any random person at an arcade, and you could spend hours playing this one. It was also usually occupied and played by the teens and the occasional adults, as the games were ...
... quite intense and injury-inducing if you didn’t know how to play properly.
The Claw!
Moving on from the Toy Story reference, you’d find a claw crane or variation of a claw crane and any and every arcade. Easily the most infuriating out of the lot, the aim of the game was to hit one single button while the claw moves on a fixed system, at the right time for it to drop down below and grab whatever it can from the cluster of gifts, usually stuffed toys. No matter how impossible they seemed, you wanted to keep trying as you can’t let a machine get the better of you. You become a legend at the arcade if you manage to grab the prize though.
Fast Food Galore!
Alright, this one’s not a game. But it is quite popular at arcades nonetheless. You’re bound to find a mini diner in or around an arcade as it’s just easy business. Kids come out of the place tired from all the fun, needing to be refuelled. With some universal favourites in the form of pizza deals, burgers and wraps, and soft drinks - these diners were a huge success at any arcade. And if you’re looking for the best pizza deals, they’re always found at these places with whole games + food combo.
Crazy Simulated Races
If there’s one other thing that always comes to our minds when we think ‘arcades’, it has to be the racing simulators. With crazy bike racing simulators that had an actual bike model without the wheels or the supercar ones where it felt like your actually sitting in a vehicle’s cockpit with the steering wheel and pedals - you’d always find yourself stuck in a line to get your turn on these!
