How To Grow Haze Strains
What is Haze cannabis? How do you grow it? What are some tips for growing Haze?
Haze is one of the most talked-about sativa strains out there. It’s origins in weed-friendly California helped catapult it into the cannabis limelight. Those that have experienced it know it for its energetic and creative properties.
Maybe you want to grow it at home. Or perhaps you’re just curious about the strain you’ve grown to love so much. We cover all of your questions about Haze strains and more.
A Brief History of Haze Cultivars
The name Haze is apparently a reference to the surname held by its original cultivars, the Haze Brothers, in Santa Cruz, California. R and J Haze crossed a Colombian, Mexican, and Thai landrace. The results of this mixed genealogy was Haze.
Eventually, Haze genetics were passed on to David Watson. Watson took the seeds with him from the US to Amsterdam where he met Neville Schoenmakers, who started Sensi Seeds (the Seed Bank).
Between the 1980s to 1990s, Haze turned from one strain into hundreds. This ...
... is why Haze now refers to many cultivars instead of the original created by the Haze Brothers.
What is Haze Cannabis and Why Is It Popular?
Haze was one of the first, if not the first, sativa to be known for the qualities you associate with a strong sativa. All Haze strains give strong cerebral highs that are stimulating and make you feel energized.
The flavors and aromas of the strains vary. However, the original Haze cannabis flower was known to be citrusy, spicy, and earthy. Many of these terpenes and characteristics are thus found in other varieties, too.
Tips for Growing Haze
Haze can be tricky to grow as many places can’t emulate this sativa’s ideal growing climate. And even if you have ideal temperatures, the plant can be finicky. Experienced growers consider cultivating this plant to be of moderate difficulty.
The most productive temperatures are warm conditions. For many growers, this means growing Haze outdoors isn’t an option most of the year.
This sativa can grow to be quite sizable, so it is recommended to use larger and deeper planting pots. Prune and shape it regularly to maintain the size and keep it from growing unruly.
Haze strains are powerful and usually have a high yield. However, they are susceptible to pests and infections, so stay on top of checking your plants. You can plant herbs or use non-chemical-based pesticides to eradicate these problems. But perhaps the best advice is to tend to it regularly.
How Long Does It Take?
Haze does have a long flowering time. Depending on the strain, it can take nine to 11 weeks to flower. This isn’t out of the ordinary for sativas, but it means that time must be devoted to care for the plant. Do not neglect it or forget any key steps to care for it over the growing period.
Once it is time to harvest the buds, you can expect between 350 and 400 grams of fresh cannabis per square meter planted. All the time spent caring for it really does pay off!
Different Haze Strains
Perhaps the most famous Haze strains are the ones you hear the most about. Remember when Jimi Hendrix titled his famous hit Purple Haze?
Lemon Haze and Amnesia Haze are two modern strains that are extremely common to find at dispensaries. If you are not the green thumb you thought you were, you can always get your weed online. You can even find vapes and concentrates that focus on Haze strains.
