EARLY HISTORY OF AI:
In 1950 English mathematician Alan Turing wrote a landmark paper titled “computing machinery and intelligence” that asked the question: “can machines think?”
Further work came out o f a 1956 workshop at Dartmouth sponsored by John McCarthy. In the proposal for that workshop, he coined the phrase a “study of Artificial intelligence
WHAT IS AI:
Artificial intelligence is the study of computer systems that attempt to model and apply the intelligence of the human mind. It is the capability of machine to imitate intelligent human behaviour.

HOW DOES AI WORK:
A common AI application that we see today is the automatic switching of appliances at home.
When you enter a dark room, the sensors in the room detect your presence and turn on the lights. This is an example of non-memory machines. Some of the more advanced AI programs are even able to predict your usage pattern and turn on appliances before you explicitly give instructions.
