Masking And The Newnormal - How To Do It Right
Coronavirus pandemic has opened our eyes to never before experiences. We never envisaged ourselves wearing a face mask every time we stepped into the outside world. While we are aware that masks are the new normal, we fail to use it properly for our optimal benefit.
As you may already know, a face mask is one of the most effective tools to help curb the transmission and spread of the virus, why not use it wisely?
Most of us are unaware of the proper usage of the mask. Some may not cover the nose properly while others leave in handing in one ear. Although some masks may look attractive and fancy enough to tempt us to use them, they may fail to serve the purpose. A plethora of masks are available in different colours and styles, however, the CDC and experts recommend using the face mask that follows the international safety standards.
The Mask Lab manufactures the N95 and Medical Grade Surgical Masks in a cleanroom environment and ensures utmost safety to prevent the introduction of any additional particulate matter to our products.
We also abide by the practices that aid in the prevention ...
... of cross-contamination between medical staff and patients. Now that the lockdown is over and we are adapting the #NewNormal approach, protecting ourselves from the onslaught of the disease is essential. We must learn the correct way of putting on the mask, taking it off and discarding them.
Let us get ourselves acquainted with the step by step guide to using the mask.
Step 1: Before you open the mask, make sure to wash your hands for at least 20 seconds with soap and water, or apply an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
Step 2: Open the mask and check if there are any tears
Step 3: Ensure that the mask is CE Certified which matches the International Quality Standards.
Step 4: Hold the mask by the ear loops only and place each elastic-loop over each ear.
Step 5: Pull the bottom of the mask to cover your mouth and chin.
Step 6: Make sure that the mask fits.
Step 7: Once the mask is securely placed do not touch it.
Now that we’ve been through the proper usage of the mask, the million-dollar question remains: “Can the N95 Masks and Surgical Masks be reused or repurposed?”
The answer is No. The CDC and NIOSH do not formally recommend decontamination and re-use of N95 masks, however, they acknowledge that in times of scarcity, the mask may be reused.
If you wish to reuse the mask care must be taken to keep it dry to prolong the usage. Also while taking it off avoid putting it under the chin as it may lead to contamination of germs present on the chin. Leaving the mask on any surface will make it prone to infection. Carefully store the mask so it’s free of germs and may be reused.
