The short form ITIL represents Information Technology Infrastructure Library and makes reference to the most generally used approach in Information Technology (IT) service management around the globe. ITIL is a group of ideas and practices taken from IT companies in both the public and private sectors worldwide, that provides information concerning essential practices and measures regarding IT related companies.
ITIL began in the UK government's Central Computer and Telecommunications Agency (CCTA) in the 1980s; they put together the different measures as a typical principle which could be utilized when building contracts.
When it was originally made available in 1989 ITIL was a compilation of books which listed particular practices regarding IT Service Management. The original collection was added to in a very short space of time until the total collection was comprised of 30 volumes. In the year 2000 the collection was consolidated into a series of 8 volumes known as ITIL V2; the series was consolidated based on the section of IT management that each covered. The ITIL V2 volumes are merged as follows:
1. Service Support
2. Service Delivery
3. ICT Infrastructure Management
4. Security Management
5. The Business Perspective
6. Application Management
7. Software Asset Management
8. Planning to Implement Service Management
9. ITIL Small-Scale Implementation
In 2007 a fresh series consisting of 5 volumes was published and dubbed ITIL V3; the fresh series is designed to replace the V2 series and consists of:
1. ITIL Service Strategy
2. ITIL Service Design
3. ITIL Service Transition
4. ITIL Service Operation
5. ITIL Continual Service Improvement
There are quite a few certifications existing to an individual which are established on the ITIL practices; these certifications focus on diverse sides of ITIL in different degrees. Because the V2 set is being swapped, the certifications associated with it and no more available; in the V3 series there are 4 levels of certification:
1.ITIL V3 Foundation in IT Service Management
2.ITIL Intermediate Level
3.ITIL V3 Expert Certificate
4.ITIL V3 Master Qualification
ITIL has turned out to be the most well-known method utilized in IT Service management around the globe; as such, a lot of businesses will need/want you to have minimally one of the existing ITIL certifications before they think about employing an individual.
