Ghee - A century-old clarified butter that is used in an Indian household for many years ago because of its medicinal properties. Roti and Dosa which is a daily staple in almost every house, ghee is a very handy ingredient to have on hand because it gives a very pleasant and nutty flavor to them. It makes the Roti, dosas perfect when you brush ghee over them and dishes made of Dal when you put tadka made of ghee. There many dishes that is not complete without ghee. If you ask me, I pour ghee over all of my dishes or I prepare dishes with ghee. It is one of the best good fats that a human can consume.
But the bigger question that comes into the picture is, from where to buy pure ghee online or Organic ghee!
There is a valid saying for Indian fixings, as a rule, she says: "There's nothing more awful than acknowledging you've purchased old nuts or flavors, and old ghee is certainly in that classification. The milk solids are eliminated from ghee when it's made so it will not turn sour rapidly, however it can go rotten." So, the first thing you need to keep in mind that ...
... you don't get stale ghee.
So there are few things that we as a consumer need to keep in mind while buying or procure organic ghee from a store or online.
1. Always read the label of the product:
Whatever or whichever may be the ghee brand, always and carefully go through the labels which have the list of ingredients used, from where it was procured (organic dairy farm, individual milk vendors), are the cow's grass-fed or corn fed, is a certified organic product, what was the process of churning ghee, does it have any added preservatives or colors. All these points have to be factored in before you make a purchase.
2. Try to inspect the Ghee:
Always have a sense of the ghee before you take it home. Try to have hands-on the look and feel of the ghee. What I mean to say is, is your ghee smell like (sweet nutty aroma or stale smell), how your ghee looks like (rich brown golden color or yellowish or white ), how is your ghee's texture (grainy or smooth), does your ghee's taste burst in the mouth or its just taste like plain butter. These factors would help you in making a better judgment related to any organic ghee brands.
3. Packaging & storage:
In my opinion, ghee should always be stored and packed in glass jars and not in tin cans or plastic jars. Glass jar makes sure that your ghee is not exposed to any harmful chemicals leaching from plastic and tins.
Organic ghee consists of mostly healthy fats, so it doesn't require refrigeration. But to preserve ghee for a longer duration it needs to be stored in a cool place that is not exposed to any kind of heat. If a new ghee jar is opened, it usually has a shelf life of 12 months depending on its quality.
