Nowadays, it is extremely common for both women and men to undergo skincare treatments and procedures to slow down the effects of aging on the skin. However, despite the wide array of options out there, some may be more effective than others depending on each individual’s circumstances (such as their age budget, and skin concerns).

Thread lifting is a growingly popular skin treatment solution as not only can it tighten the skin for a more youthful look, it can also boost natural collagen production within the body. In this blog, we’ll cover the ins and outs of thread lifting and when you should consider undergoing the treatment.

What is thread lifting?

Thread lifting is a type of anti-aging skincare treatment which involves the insertion of thin threads into the subdermal layers of the skin to help support the skin as well as stimulate natural collagen production in the body.

Depending on the type of thread used, thread lifting can have varying anti-aging effects:
Absorbable threads. Absorbable threads eventually absolve into patients’ skin and are made of polylactic acid. When inserted ...
... into the subdermal layers of the skin, absorbable threads will also encourage the body to produce more collagen - a protein which is essential to supporting the skin structure. While absorbable threads can tighten the skin, they do not lift the facial structure. As such, absorbable threads are better suited for individuals who are experiencing mild skin aging problems - however would like to ensure they appear youthful for longer (with thread affects lasting between two to three years).

Non-absorbable threads. Non-absorbable threads are made of a material known as polypropylene and cannot absolve into the body and must eventually be removed. However, due to their firmness (compared with absorbable threads), they can achieve the same effects as absorbable threads in addition to lifting the affected skin areas as well as clearing away wrinkles and fine lines. The effects of non-absorbable threads also last longer than that of absorbable threads - lasting anywhere between four to five years.

When should you consider thread lifting?

Unfortunately, there is no perfect time to undergo a thread lifting procedure - as every individual’s skin conditions are different, even if they are the same age. Thread lifting is one of the initial skin procedures patients can try for anti-aging effects (compared to more serious skincare procedures such as botox) and is comparably more inexpensive as well.

Thus, you can consider performing a thread lift if you feel that your skin condition is becoming growingly poor and you have a few fine lines and age spots that you'd like to reduce the intensity of. With the average cost of thread lifting being $2000 to $3000, make sure you have the budget allocated to undergo this procedure, and that you have the time to book a consultation and insertion appointment as well.
