Liposuction Aftercare: Things You Should Know
A popular fat removal procedure, liposuction is an invasive way to get your body contoured. As it is a surgery, you should follow your surgeon’s aftercare instructions after getting Liposuction.
One of the important things you must know here is that recovery varies from one person to another. So, you need to take age, overall health, and medical history into account to determine how fast you will recover.
Here is some expert advice on what you should do following liposuction:
The Recovery Process
Usually, one can go home the same day of the procedure. But if you had a major amount of fat removed, it is recommended that you stay in the hospital overnight.
First Three Days
Your surgeon shall provide you with elastic bandages or a compression garment to wrap around the treatment areas. These help to bring down the swelling and contour the body to its new shape. Small drains are also placed at the surgical sites to prevent fluid buildup around the incisions. This can slow down the healing. Your surgeon shall guide you ...
... about them.
You will experience moderate soreness and pain during the initial days that can be relieved by using pain medication. It is advised to limit your activity during these days. Your compression garments also restrict you from moving too much.
1-2 Weeks
You will feel a substantial reduction in soreness and pain a few days after the surgery. If you have a physically demanding job, it is better to take some additional time off so you can fully recover. You have to wear the compression garment during this time.
3-5 Weeks
Patients no longer feel soreness or pain after a month of the procedure. There might be some swelling but that is normal. It can take a few months for the swelling to go down completely. However, you will begin to see the visible result this time around. As the bruising and swelling subside, your results will improve.
6 Weeks and Onwards
By this time around, most of the bruising and swelling should be gone. Some swelling might still last for some time for some people. You don’t need to wear compression garments and your activity levels will not be restricted any longer.
Tips for Successful Recovery
Here are a few things that you should do to help the natural healing process of the body:
Focus on Eating Well
Surgery is tough on the body, regardless of your good health. Good nutrition assists in proper healing. Eat fresh veggies and fruits to speed up recovery.
Drink Sufficient Liquids
Drink water and broth post-procedure. It is the key component for recovery. Infuse water with fresh fruit too.
Take Rest
Get plenty of sleep in the first weeks to help the body heal.
Walk
Light movement is good for healing. Try taking short walks without straining your body.
Ask for Help
Ask a family member or a friend to help you in the initial weeks with home and taking care of children.
You should have realistic expectations when undergoing liposuction or any other plastic surgery in Dubai. Liposuction can be transformative and help you feel more in shape. Knowing what to expect during the recovery facilitates you in making an informed decision.
