A new project announced by the Welsh assembly that will see many homes fitted with solar panels could increase interest in electrical courses.

The state has revealed it intends to spend £30 million on energy-efficiency projects in the country, with the first phase including solar panels being retrofitted to houses.

With this level of funding being concentrated on such installations, engineers may decide to take electrical courses to provide them with expertise on implementing this form of green technology.

This week, environment minister in the Welsh assembly Jane Davidson spoke at the village of Markham in Caerphilly and highlighted how the initiative will cut the consumption of energy in buildings.

She added: "Climate change is the biggest threat facing the world and making homes more energy efficient will reduce Wales' carbon footprint."

The Scottish government recently revealed it is helping up to 5,000 people in the country to replace their boilers with more energy-efficient models by offering a cash incentive of £400.
