Wondering what is the Certificate of Origin? Well, it is a very important legal document that every business owner trading overseas must hold. The Certificate of Origin is also sometimes referred to as the Declaration of Origin since it empowers the business owner trading overseas with the license that marks the legitimacy of the products being exported. Thus, this legal document acts as a trademark that implies the products which are being exported have been examined and approved by a recognisable and reliable authority. Moreover, this certificate also helps to determine the genesis of the product from where it has been manufactured and exported. The value of the Certificate of Origin is not just limited to serve as proof for the origin of the product and a trademark to goods and services. Besides, it is also used as a document based on which tariffs and other trading measures would be applied. Thus, if you are trading or planning to trade your manufactured goods beyond the borders of the country then you should apply for issuing the Certificate of Origin for your trade approval.

Having understood ...
... what the term Certificate of Origin implies, now let us see who is responsible for issuing this prestigious and important legal authorization. Well, the CoO is usually handed over by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT). However, the DGFT has the power to appoint any government or non-profit organisation to issue the Certificate of Origin and give assurance to the various trades and business operating from the country to export their products abroad. Recently, the AIPMA or the All India Plastics Manufacturers’ Association has been obliged to issue this legal document for various trades operating to export goods overseas.

Looking at the operations undertaken by the All India Plastics Manufacturers’ Association to produce plastic goods throughout the country, the DGFT has handed over the authority to the AIPMA to issue the Certificate of Origin. The AIPMA has managed to achieve this prestigious position and authority after 73 years of hard work and effort it has applied to outgrow the manufacturing of plastic goods and popularise it worldwide. The success of AIPMA in popularising the use of plastic goods is substantially witnessed by the various rewards it has earned so far. Itsplastic Exhibition, which is recognised as Plastivision is one of the most successful events that is popular worldwide.
