Wisdom Teeth Removal – Do’s And Don’ts After The Surgery

Wisdom teeth are the last set of molar that grows between the ages of 17 and 21. They are four in number and come on top and bottom of both sides. As most people don’t have enough space in the mouth, the other teeth start shifting and this leads to various dental issues. Most dentists recommend wisdom teeth removal in Sydney to overcome the dental issues caused by them. Wisdom teeth removal is an outpatient surgery, so you can arrive and leave the centre on the same day. The recovery process may vary based on your dental health. How you care for yourself after wisdom teeth removal can make all the difference in your healing process. Here, we have mentioned a few do’s and don’ts after cheap wisdom teeth removal in Sydney.
Don’ts after wisdom teeth removal
Avoid using tobacco
Using tobacco ...
... products can slowdown the healing and increase the risk of complications. Chewing tobacco should be avoided for at least a week and avoid smoking for as long as possible, but at least for the first 24 hours.
Brush your teeth regularly
Use mouthwash or rinse your mouth the first day, as you can disrupt your stitches if you brush your teeth. You can gently rinse your mouth with warm salt water after 24 hours and brush your teeth, but take special care to avoid the stitched area.
Avoid Spitting
In general, you may have some bleeding for the first day. So, make sure to avoid spitting, which can dislodge a blood clot in the socket. Your dentist will supply you with gauze to absorb any excess blood. Wear it often for the first 24 hours, but make sure to change it often.
Avoid drinking certain beverages
Avoid Alcoholic, hot or caffeinated drinks at least for the first 24 hours. Instead drink plenty of water. Avoid using a straw, as the sucking motion may loosen a blood clot from the socket.
Do’s
Pain management
Your dentist will provide you with pain medications to manage your pain. To reduce bruising and swelling, and relieve pain at the same time, hold an ice pack against the surgical site.
Eat soft foods
Your mouth will not be able to tolerate anything more than soft foods after surgery. Pudding, applesauce, yogurt, etc. are good options for the first day.
Take rest
After your surgery, you will need plenty of rest, so plan on keeping your activity to a minimum. It’s a good idea to have a relative or friend stay with you for the first 24 hours. Also, you will likely need someone to drive you home after the procedure.
